But anyway i just replaced the air filter, spark plug, trans oil and bled the front brake as it was sticking. Will do the fork seals as well and get the trip computer working. Any other advice to get this machine in order for riding would be great! I would also like to mention that i am new to the dirtbike scene coming from mountain biking. I'm now hooked!
Mount up a good set of tires...you'll need them in the roots, rocks and mud of New England!
Where are you located in CT? There's a few KDX owners that ride regularly at the Thomaston Dam, sometimes on their KDX's!. The Pathfinders MC maintain the trails there and are a great group of guys. Come ride with us!
Hi Toms220r I just moved from Newtown last year back to danbury ,I was the caretaker at Cullens memorial,Taunton lake rd. for ten years How often are you at the dam i would be interested in meeting up there for a ride.I currently have one buddy i ride with but our schedules dont always mesh and i really prefer a riding buddy.I dread having to pull a bike out of the trails by my self or worse waiting for somebody to help if i crash bad

So, what's the deal? Are these replacement gas caps easy to replace? Mine's cracked and leaking too.
Are they readily available I checked Motosports.com and they showed one in their search. Then I read the reviews and they all said "sucks..doesn't fit!"
What gives?

I have been looking for a used original on ebay/craigslist for a while with no luck. I have seen those billet aluminum ones on ebay but am unsure of their fitment. None are specific to my year (1988). For now i epoxied mine and put it on and off very gently. Still leaks but barely.

I'm at the Dam a fair amount. You should consider joining a club. I did last year -
http://www.PathfindersMC.org - and hardly ever ride alone. The club is charged with maintaining the Thomaston Dam trails and patrolling them too.
PM me when you want to go and we can meet up!

Just recently took apart my carb because it was draining fuel. I need to get a rebuild kit because the float valve is leaking. According to the forum the 1988 kdx should have a pwk35 however mine has a mikuni carb. Where can i find a rebuild kit for this carb? Did this carb come on earlier model KDX's?

Yeah the OEM carb for the '88 200 is a Keihin PWK35, not a Mikuni. IF you can figure out the carb model (
Sudco or
Carb Parts Warehouse can probably get you the parts you need. You might have some luck finding a PWK on Ebay.

Is the pwk35 a better carb?
