Broken mystery pin floating in transmission
My 2000 KDX 200 has had a problem shifting from time to time since I bought it 3 monthes ago. Tonight my Dad and I removed the engine and spit the cases to find this pin wedged under the shift drum. There is no other damage and We can not find where the pin came from. I have a factory service manual and there is no pictrue of anything in the clutch or transmission Expoded Viewes that resembles this broken pin. Any one that could help? I sure would appricate it!!
i couldn't find out how to put the pic on here so it is under my gallery photos (14yearoldrider). please take a look at it and see if you have any idea what it is. thanks!!! [/img]

I don't get the scale on the pic...
But, the most likely part broken and floating around the clutch is the KIPS actuator.
It's OK?
BTW...post pics in thread:

If the pic is in your gallery, right click on the pic (not the thumbnail..the actual picture) and get the pic address from 'Properties', copy/past into the above format.
In your case, the pic addy is:

Just think, you SPLIT the case for nothing. Well, not for nothing. Now since your KIPS WAS NOT WORKING AT ALL, you are going to be surprised at how she runs now. The part in question is $7, but now you will need the case gasket, rt. engine gasket, clutch gasket & waterpump gasket. Go through Rocky Mountain and get the COMETIC Kit, much cheaper than Kawasaki and you get a sticker. Yeaeeeeeh STICKERS

Well...'thar 'ya go.
BTW...the reason that piece broke: The service procedure specifically cautions that the KIPS shaft must be supported when the nut on top (LHT btw) is wrenched.
When you don't support the shaft on the flat machined into it (expressly for that purpose), you break it.
Sometimes the pieces get safely tucked away. Sometimes they destroy the entire engine. That is not an exaggeration.
You are very lucky!
BTW...when the KIPS gets fixed (it has not been working maybe since you BOUGHT the thing), YOU are in for a BIG surprise!!
YeHaW!!!
BTW....you said 'split the cases'. Really? You don't perchance mean 'took the covers off'?
Yeah...I read the 'shift drum' part.....

thank you guyes SOOOOOOOO mutch!!! sorry i didn't say the scale.
so, when i go to buy a new one, will i just call it the KIPS actuator or something like that?
where about is it? we have a service manual we bought, but can't find where it goes.
ya, that explains the reason it didn't have that mutch of a difference when i rode my cousin's '06 yz 125. it didn't really do mutch to the inside, the gears seem to be in very good shape.
thanks again. i really appreciate it. i was afraid a gear or something was busted and i would have to spend like 500$ on it!!!

This is the offender... check out other missing parts. Like the allen screws that held it in place. But it looks like it broke off so chances are that the rest is still bolted to the end of the actuating shaft.
Order Kawasaki part #13236-1260

Wow. They come in RED??
This parts diagram is available @ buykawasaki.com.
Put in model/year/displacement, chose 'parts diagram'.
No scale to say...next time maybe put a penny next to it? (or whatever fits with the pic)
