You can get a PVC coupler (IIRC it was 1.5") from Home Depot that is easy on the seal and you can tap it in gently or use a press.

YES!!! A piece of 1" PVC pipe fits the mechanical seal perfectly. Which I have plenty of on hand. And had I used that instead of the large socket I used I might be going riding this weekend which is opening weekend for riding here. Instead I chipped the ceramic on the mechanical seal and now I am awaiting my second order for the seal, mechanical seal and the bearing....
