I would assume H and E series shocks aren't swappable, given the differences within the two frames. Apparently the springs can be swapped though.
viewtopic.php?t=16754 discusses this.

In terms of your rebuilding question, I have no clue. Rear shock rebuilds are beyond my level at the moment. I've only ever touched front suspensions.
I'm sure the others on the site can give you plenty of good information, though!
Good luck.

You'll be best off searching for a good used shock with the seller verifying that the shaft chrome is in perfect condition, and giving a guarantee on it.
Otherwise you're looking at a custom made shaft, or else a strip / repair rust pits / re-chrome job, whuch you may as well go with a new custom built Race Tech shock at that cost...

Just look for a used shock with great chrome.

"E" series and the last model (H 200 or A 220R) will not work because the way the pipe runs. The shock reservoir on "E" goes down as the pipe is above it. The last model goes up to clear the pipe that runs under it.

Try Tom Fleming at: https://www.tfsuspension.com/

Tom has done lots of KDX suspension.

You could also try Jeff Fredette.

Either of those guys might have some suggestions for you.
