How does the platinum pipe compare to the fmf desert pipe on a 01 kdx 200? I have the desert pipe now and its explosive powerband with still having low end.

The website has been crashing the past couple days repeatedly, more times than not, and it looks like it's been restored to a backup from last week now, my reply was erased after the site being restored from a backup. All of my previous notifications of replies and messages that I already had seen are now back again.


The Pro Circuit Platinum 2 has more bottom end power on a 220 than what the FMF gnarly desert pipe has, and a very powerful and explosive mid-range. It is the best pipe overall to match to either KDX's porting, the 200 or the 220. I think the desert rubs out about 300 RPM higher but the Pro Circuit more than makes up for it by focusing the power more strongly in the range which the porting and engine design dictate.
I find that the gnarly desert on a KDX 220 with modified head and upgraded carburetor is just barely adequate. Some people don't have a good grasp on how much torque a two-stroke should have if they are used to 250 Motocross bikes, 125 Motocross bikes, and a KDX 200... But for me, the gnarly desert provided just barely enough to work to satisfy my riding needs even with the 220 porting. The Gnarly Woods pipe was amazing on the 220 but definitely drops off in power a bit after about 6,500 RPM vs the other two, although it's still revs out plenty, the other two pipes just make more power on the top end and mid-range.
The Gnarly Woods on a 220 was the king of low end torque, smoothness and grunty lugability, it would practically lug just above idle fairly well although not anything resembling impressive power, it was nearly unstallable. The smoothness of the power delivery was incredible, but the stronger mid-range and upper RPM power of the Pro Circuit Platinum 2 while not compromising a whole lot of low-end definitely was more welcome after riding that pipe for a couple days. At first I really missed the Gnarly Woods for all the single tracks and technical riding, but the pro circuit is the best all around pipe in my opinion. It's a good blend of both the gnarly woods and the gnarly desert, and I would prefer it over either of the other two any day unless on a stock porting KDX 200, then I would choose the Gnarly Woods nearly every time unless I was only going to ride fast wide open trails. The KDX 200 needs a lot of help in the low end torque department, ignition timing adjustment and Gnarly Woods pipe are the easiest ways to gain torque but you compromise the top end significantly doing both of those together, although it makes the 200 a much more rideable bike in the technical terrain, but still you have to rev it and slip the clutch a lot more than a 220. The best of everything is a portrait Big bore 200 cylinder with the cylinder base turned down quite a bit to lower the port timing especially the transfer ports, and then adjust the other ports accordingly as well as modifying the head for a wider squish and a 69 mm or 70 mm piston.
