Will do. The aftermarket parts for the klx150's are eye watering, so cheap, I think there is a 220 big bore kit available cheaply, I'm not an expert on these bikes but the klx140 is the non registered bike and has more power, the klx150 is the registered version and it also comes in the BF version which uses 21/18 wheelsKDXGarage wrote: 11:22 pm Jan 31 2025 kdxdazz, if you could and have time, can you make a new thread with pics of some of the bikes you see? I am assuming the KLX150 is not the same as the KLX140 firt bike Kawasaki sells here. I know they have a ton of small cc bikes there. It would be cool to see some. Thanks.

Re: Kdx220sr differences
I'm the opposite, I'm spoilt for choice here , I live in a major city which is right at the base of a 1500 metre high mountain, I ride out of the city 15 minutes and road race to the top of the mountain then enter the jungle . But to ride around the mountain I have to road ride about 20klm. My bike is unregistered, I just avoid the usual police check points, yesterday evening I was road racing up the mountain, no helmet, just some cool sunglasses and asking the beautiful European tourists if they need a ride down
But swing and roundabouts, I have no choice for Kawasaki parts and mechanics here shouldn't be allowed to pick up a wrench

Chuck78 wrote: 07:48 am Jan 30 2025 My Yahoo Auctions Japan bidding is finalized, I picked up a purple front rotor guard for $7.xx, a 2nd 220SR head for $14.xx, & a 2nd 220SR swingarm for $14.xx...
It seems 2,000 Yen is a pretty standard opening bid price, and 1,000 on the small ticket items, no other bids on those. Now, the wait begins....
I ended up at $124-ish in auctions.yahoo.co.jp KDX parts, + $212 in shipping on an auction package shipment "consolidation" via Buyee Air Mail.
Japan EMS post was significantly more money, abd most times they end up using EMS if selecting Buyee Air Shipping option anyways, the Buyee Air option just means they get to choose which is most convenient for them EMS, DHL, FedEx etc.
$25 KDX220SR swingarm
$15 KDX220SR swingarm
$59 KDX220SR cyl head t-stat coolant flange nice shape
$15 KDX220SR cyl head t-stat clnt.flng corroded exterior
$10 KDX125SR purple front disc guard
Not bad! I wish I could've found a KDX200SR or KDX220SR gearbox/transmission with a good output shaft though... But I'm perfectly happy with the 200E/200H/220R gear ratios as-is, but on a future rebuild, an SR 1st gear might still be in the cards. I do have 2 bikes but 3 engines... The 99 220R''s cases will get split soon to send out the crank, but will get a good complete bottom end swapped into it for now, the original bottom end will be the spare then, and I can wait for the 200/220 SR gearbox...
EDIT - WOW! I chose the cheaper of the two shipping options, YESTERDAY, & this morning I get a DHL notification that my package will be arriving by end if day TOMORROW!!!

Re: Kdx220sr differences
Wow, that was fast!
The shipping speed backfired on me, as I'd expected the package would arrive AFTER my wife went out of town for two weeks. This one didn't come in under the radar unfortunately.
The present exchange rates were too good to believe, I couldn't pass up on that.
RB 220 vs 220SR vs stock 220.
The SR squish band height tapers off to virtually nothing, I can catch my fingernail on the step down from the gasket surface to the squish band area, but it is very miniscule, perhaps half that of the RB head and a tiny fraction of what the stock KDX head has (which has a very tall squish clearance).
Now I need to get a oral syringe with 50 cc/ml graduations on it + a piece of plexiglass to measure the RB 220 versus stock 220R versus 220SR head. The SR head, looking at it next to the other heads, I believe I will definitely want to take some out of the squish band to enlarge the dome slightly, but I'm not sure what the volume is like, it is 5.5mm deeper dome than the stock head... That's quite significant! So I take it this one will need milled a fair bit as well. I'll measure the volume versus an RB head and try one stock, and then machine the other one to be closer to the RB head but not quite, I do like the low end torque tractorability but I also like to go fast. Excessive speed is what usually gives me broken bones though!!!

Re: Kdx220sr differences
Following, very interesting, so you are thinking the SR head has a tighter squish band but less compression?
Did the swingarm come with good bearings so you didn't have the hassle and expense of replacing them ?
I was always amazed at how quickly I received parcels from Japan

Re: Kdx220sr differences
Significantly tighter squish band than stock , slightly tighter than an RB head by a very small margin, but perhaps same or similar compression ratio / volume as stock.kdxdazz wrote: 08:13 pm Feb 06 2025 Following, very interesting, so you are thinking the SR head has a tighter squish band but less compression?

They have a 5.5mm deeper chamber/dome - but a massively wider squish band which takes up a lot of additional space in there, hence why the chamber is so much deeper, because the chamber's o.d. is much smaller due to the wide squish band taking up so much of the volume.
I'll try & cc it in the next few weeks
I didn't check the bearings but I'd planned on replacing them regardless. I need one of those Motion Pro installer tools for swingarm bearings or else turn up some aluminum press adapters to use with a piece of threaded rod instead of my prior method of using strategically sized sockets and threaded rod... I could machine a step in it to set the bearings at the perfect exact specified depth every time if I DIY it on the metal lathe

Re: Kdx220sr differences
Hey Daryl, do you know who makes that seat cover? Adding taller RM125 Showa and possibly KX450X Showa suspension to my two KDX220's, I'd like to shave the seat slightly to get back slightly closer to my stock tip-toeing leg reach height on my bike, and I like that cut of that seat and cover profile... Although I am very partial to a purple vinyl reproduction cover like those offered by Pit Replica on eBay from Thailand,,, I suppose with a heat gun or hair dryer, I could shave my seat to the same contour and stretch a smooth vinyl cover out to match the contours satisfactorily, but if an off the shelf cover like that was available especially in purple, I'd be quite tempted...kdxdazz wrote: 06:02 pm Nov 12 2024 For those of you that are interested in the kdx220sr differences I put together a short video

I had it custom made here in Thailand to my design, I like step seats as stops me sliding back when going up steep hills and takes some of the pressure off my arms

Seems most popular fork conversion is crf150r, shortened and kx85 rear shock shortened

Hey that's a great idea! I didn't even think about how it would keep you from sliding back further on the steeper hill climbs. I'm going to have to experiment with a weathered purple seat that I have here and see if I can get a fresh Pit Replica purple cover to conform to the new shape. It won't be quite as fancy as yours, yours looks fantastic, but I really like the OEM look with the white outline Kawasaki letters on the sides with purple cover, I'm a sucker for a purple KDX...
That's wild to see everyone running KLX150s and 140s in your Hard Enduro events! Thanks for sharing!
