Oil Gage/Level or where i come from "watch glass"

Post by MAD_KDX_Rider »

some how i managed to break the oil gauge on my 00 H6. how do you replace it or is my bike totaled? it looks like a press-fit and i can extract it with a hook-shaft and simply press a new one back in with a rubber mallet. Hmmmmm???

Partzilla offers it at slightly more than $10.

Usually these things are replaced from the exterior. You push them in. Hydraulic press not needed. Can do with engine in frame

Looks like it drives out from the inside and the best way to accomplish this is to drain the case or just let the oil drain out when you remove the cover, remove the Clutch Cover, drive the damaged gauge out with a suitable sized drift and tap in a new unit, being careful not to scratch/score the opening so as to create an oil leak. Clean out any broken glass that may have chipped off into the case. The trick is to support the cover accurately when driving in the new gauge so you don't crack the cover in the process and a $15 part turns into a $100+ . Maybe heat the cover up a bit with a heat-gun prior to applying impact. Once completed learn how to lean your bike against a wall/shelf so that a pointy object does not stab your watch-glass, fracture it and bring you ride to a short one.
