Frankenkdx.
Old Kdx guy here, but new to the airheads. I have a pretty nice twin shock, air cooled kdx that was sold to me as a 1979 kdx 250. It has kdx 250 stickers, but it must be either a 175 or 400, right? Or what don't I know? Maybe it has a Kx 250 engine in a 79 frame? 250 mx top end on a 175? Are there numbers on frame and engine to verify size and year? It also has an obviously user modded exhaust which exists on the right as normal, with a factory pipe, then crosses over to the left with an old but nice answer silencer. Why would someone do all that? Any performance reason, or just a bored previous owner? They did a good job on the exhaust, but this whole bike baffles me. No pun intended

Re: Frankenkdx.
1979 KDX400, 1980 KDX250 and 1980 KDX400 were twin shock.
Maybe someone used a KLX250 frame??
Post an engine number and VIN / engine number. (head tube of the frame / front steering tube)

Re: Frankenkdx.
I think I know what I got wrong. I have a parts bike, sold to me as a 1980 kdx 250. Different sellers. Parts bike is a unitrak with the exhaust on the right. I took all my info on blind faith. I bet the 79 is actually an 1980, and the 1980 is newer. Thanks all.

Re: Frankenkdx.
1980 was the first year for the KDX250. 1979 was just the KDX400. 1980 was KDX80, KDX175, KDX250 and KDX400.
