1989 kdx 200 fuel economy?

Post by hazadous »

I got a kdx with broken exhaust off a mate that said his misses used to ride all day on a tank of gas I took it to get a service and carby clean and rode it but got maybe 1.5hrs and ran out of gas. Ordered a fmf pipe online and muffler which where wrong but cut and weilded to fit got the hole bike looked over again took it out and got about 1.5hrs ride. There is tones of smoke and oil coming straight out the muffler. Trying to find someone to tune it is hard. Is it a jetting problem or is it a issue with the 2 stroke oil box mixer. I have ridden a 91 with plastic tank and pre mix it would go hard for about 4hrs hardly any smoke. Any one know some one near Brisbane sunshine coast Queensland that can work on this bike. also I Ordered a tiwn air air filters and they are to big which air filters is good?

I have a 91 Sr so fairly similar, I disabled the oil mix system due to faulty parts, brass non return valve. May I suggest you disconnect the oil system, block the non return valve to avoid a vacuum leak and try running a tank of premixed. See how long you get out of a tank, if the problem still exists look at your jetting. The oil feed system parts are getting very hard to source anyway. Recently did a three day weekend and excessive fuel use was never an issue.

Welcome to kdxrider.net. Thanks for joining us.

It sounds like a jetting or perhaps leaky main seal issue.

It should run for a while longer unless you are really wringing it out.

I think it's a crankshaft seal problem

Post by hazadous »

So I kept try to figure out why so much oil came out the back of the exhaust I think it's a crankshaft seal but I rang to see I'd there is any and Kawasaki says it's discontinued any one know where to get some? As for the fuel issue when they cleaned the carby they messed with the setting and put them to standard. All the transmission oil going through it would stuff up tuning I'm guessing. So haven't fix fuel economy yet trying to sort this seal out first.

You need to perform a pressure test and vacuum test to ensure the seal is bad. This is done without taking the engine apart.

What is the VIN or frame number of your frame and the engine number? I can try to look up the part number.
