Head Tube Fork Stops
I know the obviously answer, find a welder. But, is there anything I can do in the interim to stop my upper triple clamps from hitting the gas tank? I was considering some neoprene or padded tape, but just wondering what other solutions people have come up with? I've developed a small notch on each side and would like to stop this from getting any deeper until I can get the proper welding done. Also, does anyone have pictures of a the weld job, which will help me better explain what needs to get done?
Thank you!
Thank you!

Re: Head Tube Fork Stops
Some people have added shims or drilled and tapped for a small screw in the stop.

Re: Head Tube Fork Stops
Someone actually makes a commercial product for the KX250 to run KX450F forks. I don't know if it will fit a KDX, but you can see what it looks like at least.
Anything to make it wider.

I saw that drill and tap one before too, that looked like a good one.

Re: Head Tube Fork Stops
The unit from Trick is pretty slick. Easier solution is the screw mod where you drill and tap the tangs on the lower triple clamp and add a screw. Can easily be done without disassembling anything.

Re: Head Tube Fork Stops
I did that. Tapped the existing stop and threaded in a screw. Worked well when I put KX forks on my ‘99 KDX frame.

Re: Head Tube Fork Stops
I think that is the one. That is for clamps that came on aluminum framed bikes, but it gives a concept for forks from steel framed bikes.

Re: Head Tube Fork Stops
I just used a piece of aluminum stock cut to the size I needed and drilled straight through the stop. Secured with a bolt and nut. Not a very pretty solution but it works fine.

Thanks for the responses! I'll go the the drill and tap route.

Re: Head Tube Fork Stops
I'm pretty late on this, but I did the drill/screw like others for my KX fork swap and it worked well. It was just barely hitting the left side of my tank, so I only had to do one side. Super easy to do and effective.

Re: Head Tube Fork Stops
My solution when I put 01 YZ426F forks on my 95 KDX was to use a 98 KX250 lower triple clamp. Stops work perfectly.

Don't limit your turning ability. I heated my tank with a heat gun and used a large kitchen spoon while turning the forks to reshape the tank where the forks hit.

Re: Head Tube Fork Stops
For the record, I did the drill, tap and install flathead allens before I reshaped my tank. Increasing the turning radius of a bike known for it's agility is not the answer. Reshape your tank, it's easy to do and keep the agility the KDX is known for.
