Re: New owner of nice 04 KDX200
Happy to report that Ron Black is still in business. He's been out of PWK carbs for a while but got very few recently with a "first come first serve" basis. Glad the timing was right for me :)

Re: New owner of nice 04 KDX200
Feeler gauges ordered to check the rod big end gap but from what I see now, 0 up-down play and very few side to side play, less than 0.70mm for sure.
I'm thinking about flushing the crank case with mineral spirit (since the bottom end is off the frame and on my work bench). Dumping in a large bucket with an old white t-shirt on top will allow me to quickly see hypothetical debris. I saw a few posts about that technique, guys doing it few times and then a final one with premix to leave an oil film. Shouldn't hurt right ?

I am not sure what the benefit would be unless you managed to get dirt in there during or after disassembly. No bearing let loose did it??

Re: New owner of nice 04 KDX200
I’ve been super cautious when removing the cylinder and the piston, no bearing let loose.
Anyway I did flush the crank case 3 times with kerosene and twice with premix. No debris to report besides 2 or 3 sub 0.2mm particles (glitter like). I am confident enough that the crank case is clean.
While waiting for the cylinder to come back from Millenium I’ll check the swing arm pivot bearings, clean the frame, clean the bottom engine, change the sprockets and chain (they are a bit worn) and maybe plenty of other stuff ;)

The cylinder came back from Millenium Technologies, they're really doing a great job!

KIPS was deeply cleaned and reinstalled, all adjusted with an apparent normal functioning, we'll see when the engine is running if I messed up or not ;-)
Only thing is the holder screw snapped so I'm waiting for a new one. $17 with shipping, ouch...

I did the same thing with that bolt and it broke in the exact same place. I'm not sure if it was the previous owner that made it weaker or just me, but that damn thing broke with very little pressure! Where did you order yours from? I just checked on RMATV and it was $12.16 w/ shipping, which is still expensive though.
Millenium sure did some nice work, and glad to see that you picked up an RB carburetor! Let us know how it runs after getting everything together.

Re: New owner of nice 04 KDX200
I did the recommended break-in procedure and now I need to adjust the carb.
The carb was set by Ron with 152/40 CEK-3 and 7/16 turn out from closed.
First try today with 89° and 60% humidity.
It didn't idle and the throttle response was slow, with what I think is bogging.
At 2.5 turn out the throttle response was better and I got it to idle. But it seems that it takes a long time to rev down to idle.
Maybe I'm wrong but between the bogging and the long idling down I think I'm too lean.
Anyway, I'll try different things, one at a time, lowering the needle clip, 42 PJ etc. We'll see, I guess I need to learn that like anyone else ;)

WOW! Very clean KDX. If you are 2.5 turn out, it is time to try a different pilot jet.
