Desert Pipe = Sparkplug fouling

Post by Hendrikder »

Good Day everyone

I would just like to know if a desert pipe (FMF Gnarly) could cause my spark plug to foul when I am riding technical terain at low throttle for a while?

I think my jetting is good for my current weather and altitude.

Thanks for the help

If you are riding in real slow terrain with low throttle situations, consider a one step hotter spark plug. Also "clear it out" on occasion.

I would not be looking to blame the pipe at this point.

I run a desert pipe and have done quite a bit of nasty hike-a-bike stuff and never fouled a plug.

A standard NGK BR8ES.

Yup, you have to turn the screw & clean the engine out every so often. When it get "blubbery" clean it out.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Thank You very much for the help

I will try a hotter spark plug then, I am running the standard BR8ES I will then move to a 9.

Thanks

A hotter plug in an NGK would be a BR7ES. Smaller # = hotter plug/larger # = colder plug

For the record, my bike never loads up/gets blubbery and doesn't need to be blown out when riding. I would bet you need to tune your jetting. Have you followed the jetting guide? Have you done any plug chops to confirm your jetting?
