How's it goin ladies and gentlemen. Appreciate admin accepting me as a newbie. Been riding for decades and currently own 2 kdx's, a 2002 kdx220, a 2006 kdx 200, and a 2017 xcf250. The kdx's are great bikes, both have been stone cold reliable all year. I noticed fuel overflow, not on a stand, but leaned over only slightly. Enough to know that a carburetor problem is to blame. No fuel should spit from a bike at any time during normal use. The problem was obviously a sticking float caused by the float needle seat. Looking closer at it the main problem is the brass seat....lookin at this crazy thing it appears to be an actual piece built into the carb body. Lookin for some info as far as whether or not that seat is actually removeable. If not my alternatives are a lectron, which ive heard very good things abt, or possibly the Kehin Air Stryker . Any input on either unit would be appreciated. Thanks again and ride on

Welcome to kdxrider. Unless someone looks like a spammer, we let pretty much anyone in.

Have you tried cleaning the seat and / or replacing the float valve?

You can try polishing up the brass seat. Using polishing compound on a Q tip.

I've never done this, but there are threads here on this site describing the process with successful results. A search should bring them up.

Lectron... lol. If KX and KDX Riders Worldwide couldn't fix, hopefully kdxrider.net can.

Yes, do a search on the seat polishing... Simichrome or other. It is worth a shot.

Thanks for the input guys. Judging by what ive read and seen on my carb its definitely time for a new one. I tried polishing the seat up a little but with it looking the way it does its shot. I think i mite just get a new oem carb. Im an old guy. Im not into smart carbs and lectrons for different reasons

I would try the polishing a bit more. It's amazing how nasty of a seat this can fix. I used q-tips with Brasso. Put the q-tip in a cordless drill and polish the seat at a slow speed. Normally takes between 10-15 q-tips to get it done.

Also, don't set the float to stock height as it will leak sometimes when on the kick stand.

Yes, keep at it for a bit, plus the new valve. The rubber portion wears away over time. I am not sure of it is the 1995 + manual, but in one of the KDX / KX manuals, I remember seeing a drawing of the worn away tip.

SS109 brings up a great point. There have been numerous people on here in the last few years mentioning their KDX's having an issue with a slight dribble. Do check and adjust the float height.

If you're considering a replacement OEM carb, be sure you don't go for one of those Chinese knock offs. Reports are that they can be very difficult to tune, and the jet sizes are way off.

There's a YouTube video from JENNIE'S GARAGE that goes into detail about the difference and performance issues.

Did a little research on this. Ive seen keihin pwk33's for sale at $240... ive also checked rocky mtn atv ...whole oem carb for $360. ...is there a difference? A Keihin is a Keihin right?

If you buy a new in the box Keihin, guess which jets and slide it comes with (unless you pay someone to change them)... NOT the same ones in a KDX.

I would contact Sudco or jetsrus and see about getting one with the slide, float valve, main, pilot, needle, etc. (whatever is different than KDX)

Just be aware that the Chinese knock offs do say KEIHIN on them, BUT THEY'RE NOT THE SAME as a genuine Keihin.

Personally I’d save up my coin and go with the Lectron. FWIW

Yea i was wondering exactly what kind of Keihin i saw. Usually if something seems too good (a $230 carb?....i question that ) there's something wrong. Saw a pic of a Lectron trying to be crammed in on one of the photos here...it looked ridiculously large. A few members questioned if he had the right one. That was an immediate turn off. I'd rather deal with jetting an oem
