E series USD fork leg protect substitute

Post by bultaco4ever »

I saw an old thread by someone who modified a KX fork leg protector that fit on the'93-'94 models. Now I can't find that old thread. I think it was from a KX from the middle 90's. There were nice photos, a step by step procedure. Anyone know what I'm talking about? He hacksawed off a little portion of the protector.

The KLX fork guards are an exact match for these bikes, not only that, but you can still get them. Hope that helps.

I just bought a set. The original part numbers have been updated. The original part numbers 55020-1423-RZ and 55020-0196-RZ usually come back as "out of stock". But, using those numbers led me to the replacement part numbers. I got them in the mail but haven't installed them yet.

Do you know what the new PNs are?

Well, like I said, haven't installed them yet. But, I lined them up with the forks and they seemed like a perfect fit! I used the regular stock number and found all my parts except for one, the RIGHT fork guide. The RIGHT fork guide I found as a KLX substitute with a couple additional spacers. I don't have the receipt of where I got them from online, but they are a substitute intended for a KLX and I was assured they would fit a 1993 KDX200.
Here's what I ended up with.

RIGHT HAND fork cover. This was the one that seemed to be out of stock everywhere and finally purchased the substitute that I was assured would fit my 1993 KDX200. I lined it up when it arrived and it matched my forks. It also came with these additional spacers (collars)? I'm sure I will need them.

LEFT HAND fork cover. I found this to be available. Of course, I'm sure the KLX substitute is the also the same just different part#.

Don't forget the fork cover guides: Guide, Fork, RH, W and Guide, Fork, LH, W

And disc cover if you need it: Cover, Disc, P.WH

Here's a link that also might be helpful. It lists the part numbers for the front fork guards and ALL models it will fit (for cross reference). http://www.2wheelpros.com/oem-parts/kaw ... -part.html
You will need to google search a lot and take note of the "out of stock" and "superseded by" then look for the replacement.

This is just the information that I was looking for. You would laugh your tail off at the epoxy afterbirth solution that I have been working on in an attempt to remedy and repair two cracked and broken guards.

My KLX fork protectors arrived and they bolted right on. I used Partzilla.com to get them. They were the cheapest. I wonder why Partzilla and Powerpartsplus.com don't list the KLX part numbers as an updated part number for the KDX.
I called up my local Kawi dealer and tried to order the fork protectors but I wanted to know the exact part number that they were going to order so that they didn't waste my time and order the KDX part number. They wouldn't tell me the part number. Wonder why.

Because they know you will order online and want to make it harder to do so. Too bad for them that the battle for parts business has already been lost. Only time I ever buy from a dealer is when I absolutely need it and can't get it in time. Between being generally prepared and Amazon Prime free 2-day shipping I rarely see the inside of a dealer.

Ordering mine now, thanks for doing the homework guys. Looks like partzilla can pull them all up on one parts diagram if you look up 06-07 klx300. Other years show one side discontinued.

They're also available from rmatv, but more pricey.

Why is there only one fork guide?

Took partzilla a week or more to send a shipping notification.
All bolted right on though, and looks cool! I've never had USDS before. Got some new seals while at it, but haven't installed them yet.
