I guess my link wasn't good enough :naughty:
nope, the blah blah will be removed at some point, and I didn't want to lose the link at the next clean up (nothing wrong with the comments though, just keeping the thread as clean and uncluttered as possible for easy access to the relevant info ;)

well, I guess there is no point in me rebutting here since all the "bla-bla-bla" will be removed anyway :hmm:

DIRT BIKE SHOPPING? WHAT TO LOOK FOR

complete thread here:
http://www.kdxrider.net/forums/viewtopi ... g+new+bike

bent / cracked frame
cracked / badly damaged crankcase half
transmission problem
damaged cylinder (requiring repair and replate, not just a worn cyliner needing a replate)

neglected bearings, especially in the suspension linkage
frozen swingarm bolt
Stripped oil drain plugs
case, tranny, and cylinder issues

spoke tightness. If I find all the spokes loose, I know it has been jumped a lot and I expect a lot of linkage/suspension issues. Then I start looking at motor mounts for movement and general exterior condition.

1. Has it been raced?
2. Does it come with a paddle tire/Do you ride the dunes regularly? (If yes, then I'm a no)
3. Extra motor noise?
4. General look over (motor, frame, plastics, controls, and chain).
5. Is the power band crisp/shift properly?

Welded on gear lever
dirty or damaged air cleaner
damaged frame rails and cases
excess shock linkage play
rear shock action
engine noise
clutch slippage
gearbox operation .count the gears
fork and shock chrome condition
flux capacitor function

Rusted forks.
-Bent rims (Rims are expensive!!)
-Loose kickstarter (mostly just a pet-peeve after the good one fell off my old KDX, and they're over $100 so I used an old sloppy one and a cable tie)
-Seized suspension bearings. (meaning the outer casing is seized into the linkage/swingarm etc...)
