Way to high even for a knob. I run 11.5 in my knobs. I bet 8 or so on that trials tire might make a huge difference
+1
The MT43 is a stiffer trials tire so as long as your riding in mud then you could probably go even lower then 8 Psi. I would recommend getting a ultra heavy tube if you don't already have one. I use a Bridgestone UHD tube and have rode very rocky trails with 6 Psi and have not gotten a flat with my Michelin trials tire that is even softer then the MT43.
When I went to a trials tire I started at about 12 Psi and didn't understand what the hype was about. I let a pound or so out at a time until I realized what the hype was all about. I ended up down to about 8 Psi and haven't dented a rim or pinched a tube yet. But keep in mind that with a tire that soft in the back the handling will get washy at higher speeds.
Well the problem I have is that on the trails in Colorado, it's been raining lately and it's only muddy in the shade, so is there a tire pressure in between?
Go low..... Bring a hand pump if your concerned but a trial tire NEEDS to be soft to work. The traction from a trials tire is best with low pressure. Even on not muddy ground.
If you need to ride fast and need the traction in the mud then you need a knobby. If you are riding rocky trails with some mud and a few high speed runs then let the pressure down. 15 is WAY to high to get anything from a trials tire.
One thing I have found with a trials tire is that when you get in the mud don't think you will get traction. Just hold the throttle about 1/4 - 1/3 and let it get you thru. Excessive spinning will not help.
Exactly as above. Running over 10psi with that tire would only be needed if you are riding on asphalt. Try 6 - 8, and practice throttle control. I have no issues riding in mud my MT43, other than trying to stop quickly, lol.
i just try to stay ''AWAY'' from the mud. .......ill cut thru the woods and make my own trail to stay out of the mud. less mud, less washing= more time to ride
