Doing a rebuild on my 1997 kdx 200 first thing I did was a deep kips cleaning on doing so I noticed that there was no spring for the main shaft gear but there was the ball bearing anyone know where I can buy one or what it’s call or if anyone has a moose tuning kit with different springs I can purchase . The part number of the spring is 92081.

You don't need the spring or the ball bearing. You can just leave them out with no negative affects other than maybe the KIPS being a little more noisy.

What about the recoil of the kips read about that without the spring it takes a couple of seconds to close

Wow, never heard that one before. I wonder where/how they came up with that? All it does is help hold the KIPS closed and not rattling at idle. It doesn't change how the KIPS closes in any way. Anyway, I've run with it and without and, honestly, I noticed zero difference between the two.

O wow ok if that’s what the spring does then what exactly is the moose racing kit used for because in the kit it comes with different spring of different tensions

The Moose kit, with the different springs (which are probably 25 times larger than the the spring you asked about in your first post), is for changing the opening timing of the KIPS via the KIPS governor. The governor is what the rod that actually moves the powervalves is connected to on the right side of the engine. You have to pull the entire left side engine cover, remove and disassemble the governor, and install the spring you wish from the Moose kit.

(Borrowing some fellow KDXRider member's pics to show the locations of things)

Here's a pic of the KIPS governor with a red arrow pointing to the spring you can swap out using the Moose kit...

The spring you were talking about in your first post is on the left side and goes in where the arrow is pointing.

My son's was missing also. I ordered a pack of 5 near identical springs from McMaster. Had to be shortened about 1/8*. Luckily, my KDX still had it to measure by. I was told that Jeff Fredette once stated that he has used a ball point pen spring on many occasions ( shortened of course ).
