My turn I guess.

Post by Vossman »

Had a fun little get off in a sand wash yesterday. 4 broken ribs and a lot of bruising but I am able function. KDX was running so good though, just made the last jetting change and was running like a beast.
Adrenalin allowed me to load up the bike and drive home. The body is pretty amazing. Once that wore off the pain was

Yeah, I know that feeling, sadly. Glad you made it out and wishing you a speedy recovery!

When I broke my foot I had to overcome a little nagging fear when I got back on the bike.
Hope you heal up quick.

Glad to hear it wasn't worse, last time my dad had a get-off in a wash he broke his neck. Stay away from the comedy clubs for a few weeks!

Doh! - that's not good news! Take some time and heal up. I guess this means that we're not going riding next weekend? Let me know when you're feeling up to par and we can reschedule.

Found several simple movements and bodily functions this week that can cause me to tear up in pain. 👍 Doc said a few more weeks of “discomfort”.

Do not wrap them.

Get a breathing test device to check how well you can inhale.

Hang in there. I wrecked once and had a similar outcome.

Re: My turn I guess. BROKEN RIBS

Post by 2001KDX220R »

Sadly, I'm the king of broken ribs. NOT the title I want to have. January 2018 I crash on my snowmobile breaking 8 ribs, my sternum, lacerated spleen and a bruised liver. Spent 7 days in Marquette General Hospital PAIN was worst I've ever experienced. 3 months off work. Thank the Lord for good insurance. July 2019, crashed in the woods on the trusty KDX220. Rebroke two of the originals that had healed slightly crooked. I WAS wearing a chest protector like most of us woods riders do, but these are open on the sides. if you fall on your side (like I did again) you have no protection. The point of the story is to tell you to check out the TECVEST website. These were originally designed for snowmobile racers but they've since expanded their product line with a model they call "sport". This can work for dirt bike riders (I bought one) and offers that much needed side protection in a fall. Anyone else got any suggestions for avoiding broken ribs in a fall?

MAN! You have taken a few bumps!!

To avoid broken ribs, ride slowly in the sand?? :-)

Ride slow in the sand and you'll likely stuff the front end then fall on the end of your bars....breaking a rib! lol

I second the vote on the Tekvest. Went down Feb.of 19 and broke 4 ribs and punctured a lung. It was pretty scary given how far we were from medical attention. While sitting at home healing I was looking for a chest/rib protector and came across the Tekvest. I purchased the Ralley Max, it has a couple pockets on the front and a water bag pouch on the back. It fits well and I don’t mind wearing it. It is a little bulky but I was used to it in one ride and would not ride without it now. My buddies all say it looks ballistic. I am lucky I have not had to try it’s capabilities out (knock on wood). They are expensive compared with chest protectors nut they offer much more rib and shoulder protection. I think every woods rider should look into what they have to offer whether trail riding or racing. And no they’re not paying me to say these things.
