1989 SR G1 info

Post by PeterW »

All, I have just purchased a 1989 SR G1 imported from Japan. Does anyone else have this bike and if so, any links and tips for their maintenance would be much appreciated. The back shocky appears pretty catctus and I am wondering as a starting point if anyone has had it either professionally revamped or done it themselves. Cheers in advance.

Welcome to kdxrider.net. Congratulations on your KDX. Did you get the black one or the lime green?

It was not available in the USA, but we had a similar model, the "E" model from 1989 - 1994. A lot of info on the "E" models will apply to the "G" models.

Thanks! Lime green. Love the look of it. I have only been able to source the E model Service Manual so I am hoping you are right :)

hi-def wrote: 02:09 am Feb 16 2022 Hi there
I have a G2, I have rebuilt the brakes, forks and engine so far but not the rear shock. I imagine it'll be the same or similar to the E model as KDXGarage mentioned above
1990 then I assume? Any tips about the parts that you have rebuilt? Sooner or later I am going to have to go through everything, so any heads up would be appreciated.

All, float height, PE28 Keihin on my '89 KDX200 SR. I am getting conflicting information as most sites that deal with this model were only produced in Japanese (as well as the service manual, which I can't find anyway). Translations are always open to mistakes and the site I was using stated 19 mm float height. But its not correct I think because I nave fuel leaking out the overflow.. well dripping at a rate of knots. Anyone got the unicorn (aka the service manual in Japanese) or know what the correct float height setting is for this cark? Cheers in advance.
