Water pump shaft

Post by andytom1969 »

Hi all. My 250sr is getting water into the case past the water pump seals because the shaft is quite badly scored. The shaft is no longer available. Does anyone have any ideas for repairing it?

With no availability, as I said in the previous post, may be able to have a shop fill the score and turn the shaft back down to dimension. Not sure if JB weld would hold up in that application

Negative on the JB weld. I would tig it up & put on a lathe. After it gets machined down, you could polish it with emory cloth while spinning.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Wouldn’t it wear down again pretty fast without the chrome?

Maybe, but it would work for quite a while. I would have to look at a good filler rod selections.
