Kdx200sr KIPS Valves/Piston/Rings - Sourcing parts?

Hi all,

Had my kdx around 9 months and decided to have true engine torn down and rebuilt as it was well overdue! Sure enough the top end needs replacing, KIPS are stripped/snapped and I need a new con rod... Trouble is

I’m having a real hard time finding parts? Having looked up part numbers for the piston/kips etc they seem to all differ from those specified for the E-series (which has parts more readily available).

Does anyone here know if the KIPS are the same across models? (I’m trying to source steel replacements)? Also, does anyone know where I can get a piston kit which will fit/work?

Welcome to kdxrider.net.

Look at BDK Engineering in the UK. They might know if the subvalves they make will work on your model.

Good luck.

I've ordered some KIPS valves from motoduro.. Should be here soon so I can let you know how they go in my SR when they get here.

Sorry for the late response! I got my valves from BDK and my local shop sourced and fitted a non SR piston (SR piston isn't available!). All assembled and running... although the cylinder needs replating (I didn't have time to wait!) - next build is gonna be a little pricier!

Where are people getting there cylinders plated (in UK)? Langcourts have been recommended to me...

Hello sorry to necro, do you know if the Japanese model 220SR and 220 US model have the same piston?

Doesn't the SR have three rings or an oil ring or something like that??

The part #s for the piston and rings list the same for both the US/Canada 220r and Japan 220SR models going from NA and Japanese web sites (Kawasaki Japan, Impex,Webike), IIRC the OEM 220 piston in my bike(02 220) did have something like a expander spring under the bottom ring similar to some 4-stroke bottom oil control rings, I have not seen a aftermarket piston for the 220 with that expander spring, just normal rings.

Hmmm so replacing my piston to prevent the grenade might be a problem
