H-Series water pump cover 220 vs 200 different part #'s ????

Post by Chuck78 »

I don't see any dimension anywhere on this forum, but I just discovered that the '97-'05 KDX 220 water pump cover # 16142-1094 has a slightly different part number from the '95-'06 KDX200H water pump cover 16142-1090.
The 16142-1094 # also shows as a superseded number for the '85-'87 KX125 water pump cover, hence why the 220 water covers have "KX125" cast into them.

Does anyone know what the difference is? I'm fairly certain there are both interchangeable. I'm very curious what part number.

I'm now in need of one, + a spare would be nice!

The hard enduro rock sections at Wellsville Ohio took their toll on my Gnarly Desert pipe, Mylers right side radiator, and water pump cover...

Not sure on the part number difference, though Kawasaki has always had slightly different part numbers for the same parts on different models, sometimes they include them in the supercede list, sometimes not. I know for a fact that the bolts and gasket are the same. The elbow (52014-1068) is also interchangeable but has different part numbers between the two (52014-1067 on the 200).

Would be a good time to add skid plate, water pump guard and maybe a pipe guard to the kit for hard enduro.

There you go, parts listings updated there, but not reflected here, not unusual for Kawasaki and Suzuki both.

The part number for the 200 still showed available at Partzilla & CMSNL.com, but I already figured they were both interchangeable.

My biggest question was what exactly the difference was between the two that they did not originally use the '95-'06 200 water pump cover when the 220 came out in '97?
There must be some difference in volume or something to that effect. I'd imagine the 220 probably would be set up for more low speed crawling (less airflow) and therefore higher coolant flow, but I would've thought that would require a different impeller primarily, not just a different water pump cover? But...fluid dynamics is not an area which I am very well versed in.
