Guy has the Gnarly FMF, silencer seems to be stock, no skid plate, very decent condition with street legal title but I'd have to put the stop/tail light and blinkers on again.. pretty firm at $ 3200.. A bit high to me.. what's the general consensus ? Saw one for $ 5200... surprise surprise.. it's been for sale going into the 23rd week.. I'm kinda set on the 220 for moderate trail riding instead of the 200. At $ 2800 I'd buy it if it's as advertised.. At $ 3000, it's a well, kinda maybe... at $ 3200 I may just keep looking. Even if it had the skid plate I'd go around $ 3k.. It's been so long since I did anything other than air/oil filter changes I'd probably farm the street legal install stuff to my nephew. And no, the guy wants to sell, not reinstall the electrical gizmos to be street legal.. last plated in 2018, dirt use since then.

Hmm, shame. I know where there is a super clean KDX220 for $2800 and could probably get it a tad cheaper.

For that asking price that bike would have to be near perfect IMO or no way I would drop $3200.

I wouldn't hesitate. I found a 2003 that was in good condition at $2500...just down the street. I hesitated and it was gone. These things are rare. Don't let a couple hundred bucks keep you from it.

I think you should factor in the cost and effort involved in getting a plate for that bike, vs buying an bike with an OHV title and no license plate. To me, that point alone adds a few hundred in value to the bike. If you figure, the cost to convert an OHV title to an M-title and get a plate, that could be in the $7-800 depending where you are at (not including conversion parts, just paperwork). If you figure the bike is worth around $2,400-$2,500 and your plan is to dual sport it, I would say its a fair deal.

My 03 KDX 220 is in near perfect condition. I don't see me taking less than 3k for it. It would take more than that to get it from me.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

True, prices and concerns vary by region. Here, that bike would be/is way overpriced unless absolute mint. Not worried about street plating here either as it's super easy and cheap to get even with an OHV only title.

Take a look at how much new bikes are. I know this is far from new but you're still way less than a YZ 65, a TTR 230, or KLX 300. I think 3200 wouldn't even get you a KLX 140 and a KTM 65 is 5,400.
Nice used bikes are not cheap like they were a few years ago. 2,000 gets you a piece of crap in most cases. It sucks

What are other models listed for? I think you are going to pay up or do without, until you find a clinker and end up spending more.

For comparison sake, asking prices on Seattle CL, today:
2003 200 - $4k (dealer)
2003 200 - $3k
1983 200 - $3k
1997 220 - $2500
2003 200 - $3500 (street legal)
2001 200 - $2k
Out here I’d think he’s on the upper end, but within the bell curve.

If I was in the market for one, I would pay extra to get the cleanest piece I could. A few hundred dollars extra might be worth it in the long run.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

That's pretty much in line around here... condition is course, is what determines the wide differential in pricing and pretty much dependent on what the seller tells you other than the visuals tell you.. The humorous thing is these prices are higher than before while the climate activists want to ban all gas/diesel engines, let alone a smokey 2 stroke..

Id be more worried about the 20+year old crank seals than how clean it is....
5$ part cost close 1k$ to replace.

I guess that's why it's easier to spot leaks on a clean bike rather than a ratty one after a ride ? No one is giving guarantees on these bikes. At least I haven't found any..

I'm waiting for for info on that mint 220 for $ 2800 or less.. Like it or not, the used bike craze is still in full swing it seems. I went to a Kawasaki/Yamaha dealership today. Plenty of street bikes, a whopping 2 KLX 230's on the showroom floor plus a couple of KX's.. Zero XT250's and other dual sport's. Great market for sellers, lousy for buyers.. From the price tags I saw today an OTD 230 could be 6K. As inflated as the used bike market is, a used one is still thought provoking.

Btw, anyone know what an alternative new ( or used ) headlight would fit and go for ? A 2003 I'm checking doesn't have any, rear light is on but seller didn't mention whether it's working or not which 90 plus percent of the time it means its not. Am I the only one experiencing playing dentist with prospective sellers ? Simple questions like type of pipe/silencer, title or BOS, light(s) working or not, known issues go unawnswered and require multiple correspondences.. and not just one seller, the vast majority of sellers. It rare for one to lay it all out simply and easily.. in my case it seems everything is hours away and in one case a 12 hour trip.. and then to have the seller get a bit persnickety in order for me to avoid a 12 hour drive ? Which of course is the one seemingly the most desireable..

The one for sale locally to me sold fairly quick I assume as the ad was taken down. Should have linked to it before so you could have seen how nice it was. Oh well.

Well, that one is gone as well... guy never got back to me when I could come up to see it.. He listed it locally ( I saw the sign in the background ) darn it. That's the problem when it's that far away and no response from the owner. I had little doubt that it wouldn't have gone home with me in the back of the m/c carrier.. I'm surprised it lasted that long to be honest.. I'm sure this warmer weather is in some part responsible for the sudden sale as well..... A day or so ago I called three motorcycle shops selling Yamaha and Kawasaki.. none had a dual sport of any kind and one said he has no idea when the next shipment would this year, if any. I didn't inquire about MX since that's not what I'm interested in.. that's another reason for the continued high price of used dual sport/dirt bikes... no supply.. strangely, used street bikes continue to be available at very reasonable prices.. I have no idea why they are cheap and dual sports continue to demand high prices.

Inventory is low.

I put a deposit on a new KTM in August. It didn't come in until October. Then I moved myself down the waiting list and still haven't heard anything. So, the KTM dealer has only had 1 bike of that model since August. That is short supply.
