Exhaust Compatibility

Post by MightyMoose »

Hello all!

I have a 1999 KDX200 that came with an old FMF Powercore silencer. I want to switch to either the stock muffler or the FMF Turbinecore to quiet it down a bit and get USFS legal with the spark arrestor. Are all H-series exhaust components compatible? The only decently priced stock silencer on eBay only says that it fits 1995-1996 KDX 200's. Will this work with my 1999?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched and couldn't find an answer. Thanks in advance!

Yes it'll work on your 99. It'll fit all 200 & 220's from 95-06.

Take a look at a 94 silencer for visual comparison to make sure this one (95-96) is listed correctly.

I just scoped out eBay and the only one I see listed as 95-96 is the Answer silencer that's missing the end cap for 49. I wouldn't buy that one.

This is the listing I was looking at.

Looking again, it appears to be missing the little downturned pipe at the tip (the "stinger?"). Would that affect performance/noise in any noticeable way? Overall the can is a little beat up, but it's the cheapest one I see that's not completely rusty. And all the other used silencers for my generation are a little too pricey for me. I would rather spend $160 for a new Turbinecore than $140 for an old OEM can.

Thanks for the advice!

For the noise, try repacking and cleaning your powercore. That will not solve your spark arrester problem but will make it quieter.

Well, if you buy a new one, at least it will be spotless clean inside with factory fresh packing. That would some time refurbishing a used one and the cost of packing a touch of silicone sealant.

Thanks guys. I ended up just going for the used one for now. Turns out the Turbinecore was out of stock pretty much everywhere (at least for a reasonable price). Thanks for all the advice everyone

This is likely a bit to late but I have a nice condition stick one from my 1998 220 if your interested. I can take a few pics if you like.
2001 KDX 220, bought 8/10/22 from original owner, still had factory tires. Now ported, milled head, bored carb and revalved/sprung suspension.
1998 KDX 220 for wife (my spare)
2004 KDX 200 - Sold
