04 200 Carb on a 97 220?

Hello,

Long story short, I recently moved back to the east coast, which put me not only closer to my family, but also closer to the 97 220 I bought in 2017. At that point I was living in California and the bike was for sale within 15 minutes of where I grew up. My dad went and picked it up for me for what was at the time a steal, never mind in relation to what it would go for now! Anyhow, it was used sparingly by the PO in its early days, but sat in a shed for the last 10+ years. The bike is all original with the exception of newer tires. Since I purchased it, it has been sitting in my parents garage. It starts and runs solid despite only getting back home once a year. I would only putt it around their half acre lawn or around the neighborhood just to run it. Last summer a new top end went into it. Beyond that I have been collecting OEM replacement parts and also everything I needed to do a KX fork swap. Next on the list was the carb. Do I just dial in the jetting or go LECTRON. For the time being I settled for cleaning up the jetting.

Well after pulling the carb, I found out I would need a replacement regardless of whether I stay stock or go LECTRON! Not sure if anyone else has seen a carb pitted and eroding like this (see below pictures)? I was pretty blown away that it still ran pretty decent despite some low end bog.

So finally, onto my question: Can I use my stock 04 200 carb on my 97 220? I would hate to buy something new if I can use the carb from my 200 because it is in perfect condition. Any insight or advice is greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

HOLY CHIT!!

Yes, you can use the carb. There used to be a lot of old threads on it, with jetting advice.

ugh! Aluminum that sits in stagnant, oxygen deprived water can corrode like that, but it takes a pretty long time. If the rest of the engine is corrosion free, I'd say that carb got "stored" in a wet environment somehow for quite a while. Hard to imagine it corroding like that on the bike if the rest of the engine is clean.

Yeah it was a shocker to me considering the overall condition of the bike. It is strange because the engine side of the carb is perfectly smooth as it should be. The rest of the carb is in great shape too. Anyhow, good to know I can use my 200 carb. Thanks.
