Heads up on the #7 Slide mod…

Heads up on the #7 Slide mod…

I recently ordered a new JDJetting #7 slide from Motorsport…

I ordered the left one from Motosport, my OEM part is on the right. Obviously the left one is too big. Decided to get to the bottom of this…

First I emailed JDJetting… “we do not carry the smaller 33 and 35 mm carb slides., call Sudco.”

So I emailed Sudco to see if they could help…

SUDCO WROTE:
They probably gave you one for a PWK36 and larger…

The slide is for the KDX200 stock PWK35?
If so, we have 4 of the number 7 slides in stock. They are $75.50 each.
The reason I ask is because the KDX200 PWK35 doesn't take the tradition PWK35 slide, it requires the PWK35 Air Striker slide, even though the KDX200 PWK35 is not an Air Striker.

Thank you!

When you look at Jets R Us website PWK 35 exploded view and scroll down to slides it ends up showing all slides for all PWK’s but at the bottom says “do not use these on PWK 35 KDX”. As if they’re talking about every slide listed. I wonder why?

Someone with a stock 35 should call Jets R Us and see why it’s specifically singled out in the do not use listing.

Seems like they are not the Airstriker type that Sudco says the OEM KDX carb is designed to run.

It lists ALL of the air striker slides and then says do not use KDX 35. I've always been curious about that but I don't have an OEM 35. I went from a 33 to a 35 air striker.
Regardless of what Jets R Us says, that email from Sudco about the slides is all we need to know. Good to see they emailed you back the detailed info.

Here's hoping its what your bike needed. I've seen a brand new (same number slide) turn what we thought was a fully worn out, gas guzzling carb into a perfectly idling, easy to tune carb with just that one change. I would've never thought that a worn out slide could make that much difference at idle.

PWK 33-35 / #7 throttle valve installed and tested…

I’ve read in several places how big a difference a new slide can make in the performance of a motor. Recently, I did the airbox lid removal mod and was surprised how big a difference this makes to the bike’s power on top.

When my (correct size this time) #7 slide came from Sudco on Friday I was excited to see what it might do for the bottom end power. Keep in mind that the motor has a fresh top end, ported cylinder, clean power valves, fresh Boyesen Radvalve, FMF Rev pipe, fresh packing in the FMF silencer, Fredette’s jets and needle (1173).

After dropping the slide in and buttoning it up, I rolled her outside to warm her up.
The blubbering idle was gone. Cracking the throttle gives instantaneous response, the crisp sound is unmistakable. On the bike, the pull off the bottom is amazing. Where before there was a sort of loaf or hesitation, now it’s almost electric. The idle was higher so I turned back the air screw a bit till it would just idle on it’s own. Taking it for a ride it runs like a new bike. Feels even better than my son’s KTM 200 XCW. It’s so darn willing that I whiskey throttled it on my test ride - I’ve NEVER done that on this bike before! Some of that may have been due to finding the sweet spot of adjustment in my new clutch lever, but before this the low-end power would not have been there to jump away from me. Very impressed, but dang it!!! Now I’m going to have to learn how to ride my KDX all over again!!

Awesome! Yeah, it's amazing how some of the littlest things can make a huge difference in how a bike runs. Glad you found what you needed!

Basically the #7 slide uses a different angle n the bottom of the slide that changes the amount of air that enters the throat of the carb at low/low-mid rpm’s. RB Designs used to just chop a little bit off your stock slide to achieve this, basically ‘mod’ your slide. If your slide is showing signs of wear you are better off to order a new Keihin slide from Sudco of the #7 size. Combined with Fredette’s jets and needle this really improved the low end throttle response on my 200. Bike lugs better and accelerates out of the hole harder.

I posted the part number in an earlier thread “here’s some help for poor low end performance “
