KX450f plastics on 98 KDX 220R (H frame)

Post by allan99 »

I spent alot of time on forums looking for anyone who had done this. Couldn't find anything so I'm posting here to give some idea of what's involved if you want to do this too.

I modified our KDX to fit more modern looking plastics on it. Found a set of used 2010 450f plastics (without the radiator shrouds).

Had to cut the frame at the back just after the exhaust mount on both sides and after some mods to the actual plastics themselves and 2 extra holes in the frame (just under the seat mount holes), this is how it came out.

Pretty pleased with the look.

Now to change the front forks

Not a fan of it myself, but kudos for the ingenuity!

Hopefully you have some fork boots for those fork legs, leaving them bare is asking for trouble. Also, you'll want to make sure you install the brackets on the swingarm that hold your brake hose and keep it from getting too close to the rear tire. Interesting look, I was never a fan of the KX-F number plates, but good job.

Yeah, I know. Just hate the look of the fork boots. Makes the bike look so dated along with the old style plastics, was something my son's or I didn't like. We have got RM 125 forks and triple clamps and the wheel and brake caliper assembly. So going to install those soon. Get additional adjustment capability along with it too.

We love the way the KDX rides and pulls strong. It has all the go fast parts on it. Just a few minor aesthetic upgrades and front suspension change and it will be good for a few more years. I rode it, both my sons are riding it, 15 and 18 yrs old and loving it. Just hard for me to get rid of. So much fun to ride.

Cheers mate. Thanks for hosting such an awesome forum. :bravo: :bravo:

Spent alot of time on here reading various threads on jetting, rebuilding the engine, clutch replacement, USD fork conversions, etc. Have learnt so much from the community here.

You are welcome, but Vince was the one who created the site, may he rest in peace. Julien D is the owner. I am just a helper.

Good luck on the continued work on your KDX.

I like it. But you’ll need a KX set of forks to match :)
