Is This Cylinder Bad?
2002 KDX200
While waiting for my DMV paperwork to come in, (Almost 2 months now), I decided to pull the top end apart to check the piston and cylinder and this is what I found. Is this cylinder bad?

Re: Is This Cylinder Bad?
Unless I am missing something, clean the cylinder real well and throw in a new piston and rings, gaskets, coolant, plug, etc.

Ok. I wasn't sure about the lines in the cylinder. Other top ends I've done didn't have those. The piston had a very light film of carbon on top and the pv wasn't caked at all. The head had no carbon at all.

That doesn't look bad, can even see the cross hatching in a couple. The streaks look like blowby around the rings. Like KDXG said, clean it lightly with a scotch brite pad (no hones) and new piston/rings

Re: Is This Cylinder Bad?
I just measured it and it's still in spec.
BTW can these be sleeved if worn out?

Re: Is This Cylinder Bad?
What did you measure it with and where?
Look up PowerSeal USA and Millenium Technologies for "replating". Skip old school sleeving. The 1974 KX125 did not come with a sleeve. No need to go back to 1973. :-)

OK. I was hoping that is what you would say. I wish I had a dollar for every time someone said dial calipers.

Re: Is This Cylinder Bad?
When the time comes send it to Millennium and have it replated. It will be better than it was new. Never sleeve a cylinder.
