2001 KDX 200. The idle screw on the carburetor has no effect on the motor whatsoever. When you rev the bike, it smokes like a fog machine and sounds like it's bogging. The bike has a new top-end, jug replated by Ken oconnor, new crank seals and bearings. I have messed with the clip position and jets but can't get this to stop. Right now the clip is in the 3rd position(Has been in 1st and 2nd), Pilot is 45 and Main is 160. Any thoughts or suggestions?

If you are referring to the bowl gasket, it is new.

Not the bowl gasket. There is another gasket in the fuel bowl. You will need a Torx bit to remove it.

Security T-20

Member treelimb on here got his from Lowe's. They show one set in store at Madison Lowe's. You can order a single if you don't want the whole set. It HAS TO BE a somewhat long bit / socket, not a real short one. There are other carb parts in the way.

If the carb is dipped, it sometimes damages that gasket.

Might as well go ahead & order the gasket. I think jetsRus.com is where I got mine.

Replacing the jet block oring is definitely a good start. Is this the first time you're firing this bike since ownership? If not, how was the idle before the top end work? A 45 pilot on my 02 is so rich it won't idle at all. Mine takes a 40 to get the idle and air screw to react as they should. While you have it apart, set the float level to 18mm instead of the standard 15mm.

It could be:
Float level too rich
Float valve needs replacing and / or float valve seat needs cleaned and polished
Worn slide
Jet block oring
Too large of a pilot jet
Bad reeds

I would start with the jet block and float level, run it and go from there.

Before you take the carb apart, try this. I've never been able to adjust it like he did. If it has bubbles, it needs a new oring.

Bike will idle but the idle and air screw do nothing. It smokes ALOT and bogs down some past 1/4 throttle.

Make sure the intake/exhaust tract is good, i.e.: no air leaks at the boots, clean filter, fresh muffle pack (if not stock), new plug. A compression and leak-down test are also good tests to have done and results annotated. Once that is all good then work the jetting. If the Air Screw does nothing then you need to go down on the pilot a step and reassess. Follow the jetting guide and change only 1 thing at a time then retest. 48 PJ/160 MJ is the stock jetting which is very rich to begin with, leading to lots of smoke and spooge.

Gas mixed 36:1. Pilot now at 42. Compression is at 140. No change what so ever.

Bike was doing this when I bought it. Sent the jug off and put a new top-end in it thinking that would fix it. After that didn't fix it, new crank seals and bearings. Still no change tried a different carburetor off of a 99, no change there either
