Metal Shavings/ Water in Oil
I am totally new to this forum but I have gotten a bike that I paid too much for.
1. When I got the bike, I changed the oil, just as a precaution and found that water had gotten in there, so i emptied and ran twice clean oil for a bit and drained it both times. While it was running it seemed to run pretty decent, so I decided to take it out for a few hours, and once i was done i checked the oil, instead of water this time i found little shavings all throughout the oil.
I would like to know what to do to move forward, i am already have to replace the clutch side cover since the previous owner just taped over the hole in the casing, what would be causing the shavings and about what is it going to cost me
Thank you all for all the help. :)

You have a hole in the case. The bit that used to not be a hole is likely what is now your shavings. IIWM I'd flush the bottom end and then pull the side cover and inspect at a minimum. That will cost you a gasket, the side cover of course that is damaged, and oil (or kerosene but pull the clutch first). The side cover will be the spendy bit, the oil and gasket will be under 20$, and then of course your time. Post some pics of the damage and what it looks like and we'll do what we can to help diagnose.

Looks like the KIPS actuator pin broke off either from tightening the left hand nut the wrong way or your KIPS valves aren't moving freely. You'll need to remove the inner clutch cover to replace it. If you haven't figure out where the water came from, that would be a good time to rebuild the water pump too. The shop manual has details on how to do all of this. Good luck.

Yep, it's the old Service Manual Purchase check. Looking at those photos you had water in there for a while, I would guess probably from it sitting with a hole in the case. The replacement pin is about $9. If you haven't lost any coolant you can probably get away with not touching the water pump, but IIWM I'd do it for peace of mind. You'll have to pull the inner clutch cover, so thats another gasket as well, plus a service manual...Should be able to do everything and be back on the trail for under $100

Re: Metal Shavings/ Water in Oil
Could I please get the part numbers that you guys were talking about, I have bought a new basket and clutch due to the excessive wear on them and some teeth being banged up, i just want to get the right parts is all. Is it necessary to take the engine out or would it be okay to leave it in.
Btw thank you for all the help and replies you have given me :)

Look on eBay for a used part. for the cover, not the $8 pin part
