Baby Burr Dual Sport, Plymouth Ohio, June 24-25, 2023

Post by Tyl3r »

Anyone going to the Baby Burr Dual Sport in New Plymouth, Ohio? I signed up for the Saturday ride (can't make Sunday unfortunately).

This is the second dual sport I am trying. The first one was a complete washout and I wasn't very well prepared; only made it about 1/3 of the way through. Planning to make it the whole way this time, the trails look awesome! I saw some vids from a guy I rode the last dual sport with and am excited to see them for myself:.

I would LOVE to do this... I probably should've paid a bit more attention to it and signed up, but this is been one hell of a difficult year for myself and my family.

New Plymouth, Ohio by the way. Vinton County. EXCELLENT riding terrain, and relatively desolate... Plymouth Ohio is near where I grew up, up north/northwest in the glaciated plains!

There's a slight chance I might attend this still get a good riding buddies is able to with me, if registration doesn't close soon. We're both on street plated KDX's...although both are set up primarily for off-road only, the best way to be 👍

The club's headquarters for this event are in between 2 of our favorite riding areas out of 3 or 4 in Ohio, and about the same distance from home for us
We're in Columbus.

Well.... How was it? Looks like most of the rain held off?

It was awesome, some great trails. Rain held off for the most part, rained at camp a bit the night before, but almost nothing for the Saturday ride. The mud made some of the stuff a little tricky, but man the trails were all awesome, good mix of back roads, logging roads, gravel roads, two tracks, several creek beds, and of course, quite a few tight technical single track sections. I unfortunately dipped out for the last 2 woods sections, was having difficulty hanging on in the last section I was in, I think it was a hydration issue on my part. Then on my way to the next one, I came across a kid who was alone and buried his front end in a hole, so I helped him pull it out and I basically died after that haha. Took the blue arrows back to camp. Still got in 107.3mi total for the day, was a great time and would definitely go back. Saw two guys on KDX's, didn't get a chance to talk to them though.

I'm tempted to do the Copperhead National Dual Sport in two weekends down south of us an hour and Appalachian Southeastern Ohio, but I also might end up having to race the hare scramble at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days the following weekend, as registered racers get in 9:30AM Thursday & general admission camping passes don't get you in until 330pm Thursday... Racing only so I can get in early and scoop up one or two prime campsites as we're trying to get a big group of friends and probably five campsites in a row side by side on "Rippers Row," right in front of the after hours unsanctioned campground barrel races - unscored hooligan sorta circle track races around trash barrels lol...
I just got an AMA membership for the first time in my life at the age of 45, so either way I'm good to ride the Dual Sport or race AMA VMD!
Now I might actually have to put together one of my more vintage bikes although the KDX now qualifies to race the non current classes or maybe first vintage classes. The '77 Suzuki PE 250 would be a great one to race if I can rebuild it and get some longer remote reservoir hoses for the Fox Factory Shox...

Hey Tyl3r, the forum host crashed again yesterday and we post a few days worth of posts again. I got an email saying you'd replied here, but now it's again gone... Supposedly the greater issues that caused the forum crashes has now been fully resolved.

I got an AMA membership now so I could potentially do the Copperhead National Dual Sport, but I think instead I'll be wrenching nonstop on a 1977 Suzuki PE250 2-stroke to at least get it ready for AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days Festival in 2 weeks. I might potentially even race the hare scramble on it. If not, since my '97 is over 25yrs old now, I can race it in the Revolution 1 class! Previously I wason a '99 220, less than 25yrs old last I considered racing it at AMA VMD...
