Southern Ohio Dualsports 2024

Is anyone going to any of the dual sport events in southern Ohio this summer? I have a couple on the radar that I signed up for. If you haven't been to one of these, they are awesome! A full day of riding (2 in most cases if you can handle it) on beautiful groomed single track that's only ridden once a year for these events. Ride at your own pace, start at like 9am and ride until 3 or 4 in the afternoon. There is camping the night before/after, gas stops along the ride, a lunch stop, and usually dinner. Around 70 bucks or so per event. I am going to these ones for sure if anyone else is too, let me know!

I considered doing the Baby Burr or more likely the Copperhead (August), as my June schedule is a bit full, but I wasn't 100% certain yet. I definitely need to start hitting these, as I hear there's really great single track that otherwise most people never get to ride....
Another local KDX200 guy Jesse told me that it's some of the best single track he's ever seen in Ohio... I have an AMA membership as of last year, so that knocks a little bit off of the cost of registering!

June 15th weekend my buddies are trying to get me to race the Athens Milk Run Enduro, but Sunday I believe his Father's Day, so I definitely can't skip out on hanging out with my Dad after losing my mom a year ago to cancer.
Saturday is the family Enduro which my AMA racer buddy was trying to get a bunch of our friends to run as their first Enduro ever. I might do that, the main enduro is Sunday though, I definitely will be missing that. If that doesn't happen I might be into that Hardwoods Dual Sport.

Oh nice, hope to see you out there man. I think I may have met Jesse and briefly spoke to him, I think he was at both of the past dual sports I've been to. He is definitely right about the awesome single track!

In case anyone was wondering, the first two dual sports were awesome!

The Lumberjack was super fast and flowy. The trails were super cleared out, marked very well. 113 total miles, about 53 of them were trails. Super good time, definitely planning on going back. I think several sections of these sections were enduro tests, they were cut in nicely and easy to go fast on. The first section was like 20 miles of single track, it was pretty awesome.

The Baby Burr was a little more technical and had 2 "expert only" sections that were pretty fun, had a bunch of long, rocky climbs. Most of the trails trails were clear, very well marked. Some parts were super tight though, felt like riding through a jungle, but it was fun. 123 total miles, not sure how many were woods, probably 55-60 or so. Saw 2 guys on KDX's at this one! Didn't get a chance to talk to them though.

Looking forward to Copperhead. I didn't make it very far through the last time I went, so I can't fully comment, but looking forward to that one. Everyone seems to like that one the most in this neck of the woods.

I'm considering doing the Copperhead this year, I wish I could have done the Baby Burr, it was on my calendar, but everything went to hell this month. I've actually only gotten to ride my KDX once this year on a 4-day weekend Kentucky road trip, despite thinking about 2-stroke enduro riding in the woods every single day more than anything else occupies my thoughts

We did get to do a cross country road trip on street bikes though, so that was a good experience to have, but I still almost rather would have been riding punishing single tracks on my KDX!
I was hoping to get my RM125 Showa suspension upgrades done and dialed in by now, but I'm still on the KLX fork & stock shock... I may swap on the 97-04 KX500 forks if I don't have time to really dial in the Showa stuff this summer.
I was really hoping to have my other KDX completely rebuilt and both bikes running the Showa suspension, so that I could loan one of them out to a Pittsburgh buddy who doesn't have a titled bike for use on Ohio public trails...
Hamstring injury has also slowed me considerably, it seems that these injuries take a very very long time to heal although I think I could ride despite it, it's just sitting in the truck for an hour or five to get to the trails that hurts at the worst!
