Are you saying it was staged and not a random shot?

Sorry Tom, I'm in a rush to get my house and pool together for Memorial Day. I will try to get some posted next week. p.s. I had a kick ass time as usuall! Everybody was great. btw........ Tom and I did do a short improv race up a gravel road. We were side by side til' he tried to wheelie over my front tire, so I backed off. Cheater! Gravel hurts........ Everybody's welcome to the pool party..... C'mon Tom, Jim, Vince, K, etc, its not too far of a drive....... :supz:

Thanks for the invite to the pool party, Rick. As it turns out Kathy already has us "scheduled" to visit her cousin in Crittenden.

BTW . . . I'm writing from my mom's house this morning as we came back to WV to celebrate my dad's 65th. Brandon and I brought our scoots with us and managed to get in about a 4 hour ride Saturday AM at the Little Coal trail system about 10 minutes away from my parents house.

It's not nearly as vast as Rockhouse or Bearwallow, but the good news is there's always an easy "out" (we ended up not needing to do that!!). Brandon and I rode all of the singletrack (save one section that was washed out and absolutely impassable) and about half of the black trails. Some of the blue has some pretty good hills. The light rain Friday night made some of it greasy but we managed quite well.

Honestly, Little Coal would be well-suited for our extended KDX-rider family. We only covered 1/4 maybe of the trails. You're never more than a handful of miles away from the trail head but there's plenty of challenge and plenty of kickback stuff . . . 50+ miles of it. And like I said, if you can't make something, there's always an easy trail to back down to and go around.

A few pics . . .

here's my riding buddy holding up a big rock for me . . .

Image

taking a break on #194 . . .

Image

a pretty hair-raising hill on #185, nothing but a rut for a trail, the picture doesn't do it justice . . .

Image

the going got rough now and then. You can see where the "rut" takes you, and the grade was no joke . . .

Image

made it to the top!!

Image

what a morning! Wish I had a helmet cam for some parts of the trails, one of the blacks was an uphill rock garden, you had to see it to believe it.

Late summer . . . early fall. 1st or 2nd week in October? Depending on how wet or dry it is this summer, the 2nd week could be about the best time you could possibly go for the full "country" effect. All that canopy we rode through would be orange and yellow.

We're on for Saturday unless the weather is foul . . . which it is not supposed to be. We should bring a chainsaw/quad and try to get out there earlier than usual.

You know, it's not that far away. How hot is it in August up there? Maybe we can do a "heat of the summer" ride where it's coolest. Or am I dreaming and it's really hot there, too . . . ?
