What I did for license plate illumination was to get a set of LED license plate bolts. I just tapped them into the tail light wiring so whenever it is on they are on. They draw almost nothing and work great.

I bought two 1056 LED bulbs on eBay for $2.99 and they work great.

I purchased an 1157 style LED tailight bub from superbrightLEDs.com. I did come across an issue, though. The tail and brake lights work fine, until I turn the headlight on. Then the voltage gets pulled down so far that the LED version will not light at all. A regular bulb would still burn, just not as bright. The LED's require a very tight voltage range to work.
I will install a larger battery to combat this. The ni-cad AA's just do not have enough current and storage capacity.

Came across this recently:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/191612882755?_t ... EBIDX%3AIT

It's a T19 30W LED. Will require DC power though to work correctly. I'll be installing a Trail Tech reg/rec and looping it in to the yellow stator power, and remove the stock regulator.

Hi..i have to ask you something that If you soldered the terminals together, aren't you running 60 watts all the time, with both the high and low beam filaments burning? I do not know what the stock lighting coil output is rated at, but I would like to run a 55w light on my bike. The stock 30/35w just doesn't cut it for night trail riding.

Yes, if you soldered both terminal together you would be running both filaments. On a stock bulb that would be 50 watts of draw which the stock KDX stator (30-35 watts) can't handle. Consider ditching the stock headlight for a higher power LED setup and do the high output stator mod.

I replaced my stock 1992 kdx 200 headlight bulb with one made an by outfit called AMBOTHER. I got it off of amazon
It works excellent and just 15.00. Its an led replacement and now I have bright white light that makes my old stock headlight seem like a candle.

Here is a link to the page for anybody that is interested.

Are you saying this is a drop in replacement (ie;no modifications) for the stock KDX bulb?

I can verify these work, order a couple pair though, the first one i installed blew out as soon as i fired up the bike which sent me on a goose chase to check all my wiring, ended up just being a defective bulb.
