Broken Oil Drain Plug

Oh I`m pissed....Just putting the final touches to a COMPLETE winter rebuild including RB Head and Carb mods and I snapped off the Magnetic drain plug.
I have started the drilling for a easy out and the remains of the stud is starting to turn with the bit (towards the Inside of the case).
Question, can that stud be retrieved from the clutch side cover should it continue into the case OR will I have to pull the engine and split the cases?
Hoping for the best case but dreading the worst.

Thanks guys!

I think if it goes in the case, you won't be able to get to it unless you split the case. If it's loose, can't you get it out now the regular way?
good luck

If it turning that easy try reversing the drill or if you have enough of a hole maybe the easy out can get a grip.

If it gets up in the case you're in for a lot more fun.

Scheckaet,

There is nothing to get a hold of to back it out....it sheared off approx. 1/4" inside the case.

I`ll go give it a try with something...

Thanks

Mike,

Not enough of a hole yet to get the easy out started.

I did get a #3 phillips to get a bite and did get it reversed to just past flush of the case, no further.

I will keep at it... I don`t want that much" more fun "!

Thanks

Chris

you're lucky you didn't break the case or striped the plug hole. I keep it snug, can't remember how much torque it is (14flb?)

Not when I'm working on the drain plug

Is this some aftermarket plug? I can't really see the stocker snapping off

Congrats, you got off lucky. My kid did that and stripped the case. I ended up putting a timesert in, but that was mighty expensive for the kit. Glad you got it. I was about to suggest that Sears craftsman extractor kit on the infomercials.

Yeah, I believe it was a Tusk magnetic. They appear to have a steel tip inserted in the bolt end which is the magnetic portion.
The bolt sheared at the transition.

And Yes, I did get lucky.
