Hey guys, got a question.

I had to ride my bike about 30 miles today on public roads (as I had no other way to get her home) with speeds up to 55mph. The majority at 45mph. She ran and handled great. Anyways, when I got home I noticed that there had been oil coming from my airbox. It had covered the right side of the swingarm, tire, and brake rotor with oil.

I have never run a 2t bike so fast for so long before. Is this to be expected when running this bike at such high speeds for extended periods of time or is there something more sinister going on with the engine?

Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

What color was it?

If it was grayish you may have a leaky waterpump seal

No.

But it is a situation that is going to magnify an otherwise unnoticed problem. That's a whole lot more airflow (and air speed) through the machine than it would get trail riding.

It is transmission oil, correct?

And it isn't gray?

How does the exhaust pipe look? Any Spoo?

Look anything like this?

I'm betting it's spooge from the pipe / muffler joint.

He DID say RHS. Airbox drain is center, isn't it? Looks to be from Wibb's pic.

If it is coming from the airbox, it could be an overfilled trans pumping it out of the crankcase vent into the airbox via that hose.

Mr. Wibbens, it looks nthing like that pic thankfully. Also, not gray in color. It is definately transmission oil coming out of the drain at the bottom of the airbox.

BTW, there is some spooge from the pipe (I believe it is running rich) but it isn't the problem.

There is a vent for the transmission that goes into the airbox. If the transmission is overfilled, transmission oil gets forced out of the tube up into the airbox. The only other thing I could think of is a RH crank seal leaking badly enough to allow compression into the transmission area, forcing oil out through the vent and into the airbox.

Drain the oil, and re-fill properly. Check the old oil to see if it smells of gas.

You'll find trans oil in the airbox if your bike has spent some quality down-side-up time.
