Air filter Glue?

Anybody have experience with a good glue to repair seams that are letting go on the stock filter?

I have.

Ate the top end when the glue gave out in the middle of a ride.

Don't do it.

Not worth it!!!

Considering the cost of a new filter vs: the cost of a top end..WHY would you even want to fool with it?

:hmm:

I made all that up. I've never used filter glue and never would...less I was miles from home and had the choice of running with a hole or trying to fix it. I think Wibby tried it. Ask him.

Well I got stoopit and washed the stock filter in hot water, which let the seams de-gluify. I've used No-Toil for a long time and never saw that, but always used cool water. This was the day before I was to go riding. That's why I was hoping to get a quick helpful answer.

Glue should work because the things are glued together in the first place. I fully intend to buy a new filter, just didn't want to wait. RM sells a No-Toil filter for only $13.00, and the reviews are positive.

Anyway, I used a glue called Power Poxy Super Crystal Clear Cement. I'll see how it holds up to servicing a few times while I use the new filter.

Power Poxy Super Crystal Clear Cement

Whoa! Sounds super-d-dooper!! All it needs to be is purple.

Yeah...they're glued in the first place..and that first place is before it's been oiled, reoiled and oiled again, has had detergent put on it, and gotten filthy.

Let folks know how well it holds up?

About the time seams on my filters start to give up (hot water washing notwithstanding) is about the time the foam starts to degrade, so it's time for new ones anyway.

Hey! I just realized you're pokin' fun'a me and my quick helpful answer!!

Nope it's not purple, it's Crystal Clear. I only bought it because Billy Mays said he would double the order and kill Vince from Sham-Wow. I couldn't afford not to buy it!

But...does the glue have a 10-year warranty? Did you get eight tubes for the price of only four?

Truth told, I had to google both'a those names to find out who they are. Sheltered life, 'eh?

But wait, that's not all! If you call within the next 10 minutes.....

I've glued a filter. I'm not proud of that fact. I think I used Gorilla Glue. It held up until a new filter came in.

I just use Duct Tape. It's the handyman's secret weapon!

I have also glued a filter. Agreed, not one of my proudest moments, but It got me by until the replacement came in. I always intend to pick up another as a spare or for rotation, but something else always comes up that seems more important....

"Nothing screams bad craftsmanship like wrinkles in your duct tape."

What's the micron filtering rating of that duct tape?

I made it, uh huh. Yes I did. All by myseff.

I was supposed to be doing non-stock semi-annual inventory...but...ssshhhhh...don't tell anyone.

Not TOO many wrinkles, 'eh?

Criminy...I think I just got (another) 'Yer F'n Fired!!! love letter.

See? It works! Endorsed by the KDX guru himself. That's better than a Billy endorsement, and right up there with the sham-WoW! In fact, I've been thinking of making a sham-wow filter skin. What'ya think?

Maybe a bad idea. Vince may want to come do an infomercial while riding your bike.

"You're gonna love this, it also doubles as a filter skin for your bike! Stop having a boring filter, stop having a boring life!!"

back to the glue. What I used seems to be holding up fine so far. Don't know how it would work on a filter that had been oiled with non-veg oil.

Yeah I am, looks like Vince from Sham Wow did a pre-emptive strike.
