Yesterday while aiding another rider I leaned my 06 200 against a tree. Upon my return I noticed that a significant amount of gas was coming from one of the drain tubes. I assume that there is an overflow hole in the carb. What is the purpose of this overflow and why does it only happen when the bike leans to the left and not the right?

you need to set your float level. it is alowing the gas to drip out too easily.

it is to make sure your carburator doesnt flood when it tips over.

Mine does that as well. I've tried to fix it but to no avail. I just turn off the stopcock and all is well.

Back to the float level drawing board for me.

Mine does the same as well. I know the float level is all good (set per manual). Don't know if the manuals call-out is ideal.
Needle valve was also in good order. Adjusting the float level (lowering)may lean out the jetting a bit. Just a thought.

IF your float level is correct and IF your needle/seat is doing its job, it won't pee.

That said, most KDXs pee way too easily...like when on the kickstand.

The information one can find on the web never ceases to amaze me. Mine pees way too easily and I always have a puddle under the bike, kickstand or bike stand. Annoying.

But I have what may be a stupid question - does fuel slop out that drain the entire time I am riding as well? I can't figure why it wouldn't. I haven't tried to adjust my float yet but maybe I need to quit being so lazy and at least try. If it's sloppng out while riding my fuel consumption must be double what it needs to be.

If the adjustment is really out of wack then yeah it can pee while riding too. Easiest way to check is just start the bike, and ride around the yard with somebody watching.

Pretty much a given, I'd say.

How could it not? What...it's going to leak just sitting there but NOT when it's getting the pee-wah pounded/bounced out of it?

This issue fits in the same chapter as, 'Why is my res bottle always empty? What do I do about it?'

1. It's empty because there is nothing IN it.

2. Do nothing, 'cuz nothing is exactly what is going to resolve the situation.

You could attach a reservoir sort of thing to the carb overflow...or just a piece of rag and go for a ride. See what happens.

While I would expect SOME fuel is going to come out due to jouncing around on a 'normal' ride, it's not going to be a whole lot. Not nearly as much as stopping for a break, to enjoy the view or whatever, and ten minutes later come back to your bike to see a steady stream peeing from out of the carb tube..that's been going on ever since you swung your leg OFF the thing.

Fortunately the gas tank is nice and big so it's not a problem

Turned out the when the dealer adjusted the clip, they did not straighten the carb back out. Simple carb alignment and no more drip, drip.

It's not always the float level when it leaks. During the check-out ride when I puchased my KDX, the bike leaked when it was on the side stand. I watched as the mechanic took off the large drain bolt on the bottom of the carb (the one that covers the main jet). He explained that sometimes a piece of debris gets into the gas tank during manufacturing, and it gets stuck in the float seat. When he drained the bowl, whatever was in the seat cleared. After that the leak stopped. I guess the same could happen with dirty gas. Three years later it has not leaked since. Except when I sometimes fall off, and lay the bike over on its left side. Ha Ha.

This can happen from new gas cans too....The little plastic 'fur' can get ya!

Those Total MORONS! Any basic knowledge would tell you to put the thing back together the way you took it apart.

Guess I'm lucky, my '03 200 doesn't pee at all.
