Hi All, This is my first post. I bought a 1989 kdx200 in September and in the process of rebuilding it from the ground up. There is an electrical doo-hickey on the airbox cover which I assume is a voltage regulator. It wasn't hooked up to anything when I took the bike apart. Also, I bought a manual online and the electrical schematic does not show any voltage regulators. I started the bike for the first time yesterday and hooked up a light bulb wired in as per the schematic and the light worked. Great BUT what is that doo-hickey on the airbox cover????

Pretty sure that is your voltage regulator. If you rev the bike without the regulator it will pop the headlight bulb. It should be wired in to the red and black wires listed on the diagram.

tx for the info. Where do I find this diagram. The one in my manual doesn't show a regulator.

As far as I know the 1989 OEM didn't show it because it actually didn't have a voltage regulator when the manual hit the market but Kawasaki added one very quickly to the bike because of the bulb popping. It's super simple to hook it up. Just follow what I said or use the H series diagram as it works exactly the same.

Welcome. Look for the second version of the OEM manual, as it will show the regulator. Look on the parts diagram for 1990 - 1994 models, and it will show it.

Merry Christmas.
