Took it for its first break in ride today. And it ran awesome. It was a bit lean on the bottom.. alittle “bog happy. But over 1/4 it ran beautifully and sounded nice and crisp. Running a 36mm pwk from a 220/200. I’m going to go up a size on the pilot to a 48 or raise the needle a clip. Other than that it was problem free. I checked the cylinder head temp after my 15 minute ride around a field and it read way too high at 400 degrees F. Then I realized my infrared temp gun was way off. My skin temp was 220 degrees F, boiling water was 700 degrees F, and some room temperature glass was -10 degree F according to my infrared temp gun. :snooty: thank you guys

Yea that scared the crap out of me. I ended up getting rid of the bog after the first ride. I went up on the pilot and up a notch on the needle. I haven’t dialed the air screw just yet but I think going up on the pilot was unnecessary because after idling it just outside the garage I noticed a fairly strong unburnt gasoline smell. I also started noticing coughing/backfiring when I kicked it a few times and it also coughed when I killed the engine on one occasion. It never kicked back. Sound right?

Get it warmed up before touching the air screw. Just get it and the pilot sorted before going up to needle and main.

Got it pretty dialed in with the 45 pilot, and using the r1173n needle 4th from top, and a 155 main at 40:1. No spooge. It bogged off idle with the needle on the 3rd clip. Lowered needle one notch and the bog got much better but still there right off the bottom. I’m thinking I could go a bit more rich because the carb im using (H series bored to 36mm) has a needle jet that sits 2mm higher than standard. Really doesn’t smoke much at all unless I am warming it up with the choke on.

I tried a cek needle I had lying around while leaving the rest of the carb circuits untouched so 155 main, cek 3rd clip, and 45 pilot. I got rid of the bog completely with this set up but rpms took noticeable longer to rev out past half throttle. I went down to a 152 and that didn’t help. I’m thinking I’ll go back to the set up above but try to run a 48 pilot instead. A lot of this ramble is to keep record but I will definitely take suggestions. Thank you
