Starting Issue

Post by Dekon »

Hello all,

I seem to have a very strange starting issue. When the bike is cold started it will run for 2 to 3 seconds and die. It will do this 15 to 20 times then it will run fine. If I even look at the throttle, the bike will stall. I've cleaned the carb so many times I can do it with my eyes closed. I know you can not dip the carb because it will ruin the gasket in the carb. So I never dipped it. This has been happening since I totally rebuilt the bike. It is so annoying. Any suggestions on what to try?

Find a friend with a nice running KDX and switch carbs. If it improves things, call Ron Black.

Replace the jet block gasket anyway.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Sounds lean or possibly you have the idle set too low. With a fresh top end the engine is pumping more air which could cause it to be slightly leaner than before. More compression could also lower idle speed so therefore require a higher idle setting.
