Kick Stand Kit

Post by Goat »

https://www.ebay.com/itm/KAWASAKI-KDX20 ... 890.l49292

Does anyone know of cheaper way to attain a kickstand?has anyone used this kit?

Every part on mine (except the bolts) is worn out. And I am not good enough machinist to repair to original spec.
I have it patched together such that it works. It just down work well enough for me, since it still flops in my way if a have to drag my foot or paddle thru something.

I took mine off to race. Darn thing is just in the way and tends to dig into the ground if you lay the left side down on a hill. One less thing to cause a problem. Race bike don’t need no stinking’ kick stand!

Haha! I would not dare keep mine on for a race, either. But I find it very handy for “every day” use around the house. I guess I should just sack up and remove it permanently. A triangle stand only costs $20, and I’m gonna need to get used to that on KX anyway, right?

I'd like to install an updated version of a kick stand, something similar to those on Betas, huskys, and the new KX-XC. I seek the type that angles UP,more vertical than horizontal. I speculate that the mount would attach to the swingarm.
ANY suggestions to decent aftermarket kits?

The only one Im aware of in that style for the KDX is the Trailtech as adapted in this thread (I am sure other makes can be adapted in the same way): viewtopic.php?t=6152

I went with the Trail Tech. Along with the Doakley approved bracket adapter from Lowe’s. Could not find the round stem one any more, so this one doesn’t match the bike quite as well. But seems like it should be functional. And maybe even can leave it on the bike at the track.

That actually looks pretty good although it does seem like your boot would ride on it a bit. I intend to put my stock kickstand back on if I ride some dual sports.

Ya maybe true + bracket hangs down a little bit. So am little concerned about bouncing over rocks. I plan to hit the gnar tomorrow. And will advise seat of the pants review. But my OEM one was so floppy and bouncy that I think this will be good improvement. I do like how serious the “snap” is when you fold it up. I hope to no longer catch my foot on the stand when I’m paddling.

Riding in the rocks at Walker Valley I'd be more worried about no skid plate than the kick stand hanging up, seen a lot of cracked cases up there over the years lol It does look like it hangs down a good bit, is it lower than the linkage? If not probably not a big issue as the linkage arm would take the abuse, and it is beefier.

I did not get out to try it. (Managed to mess up my Sat project enough that I had to fix it on Sun). It does not hang past the linkage so that’s a fair point and makes me feel better. I have forgotten to put the bash plate back on, since I was still fiddling with the new shifter location. ty for reminder!

Worked good this weekend and didn’t seem to get bashed up... it this is early days.
Man was it nice to paddle (seemed like 1/2 the day) through snow and not have to catch my foot on that old sloppy OEM unit of mine!
And seems to work great on the trail when needed.

Dont tell any of my Marine buddies. They all think I’m the disher-outer.
I also noticed that tire when I looked at the pic. Better start shopping, again.
I seem to always be surprised when I wear stuff out that I put onto the bike. It all has to be less than 1-1/2 years old.
Bending or Breaking stuff is my normal speciality.
I never rode a bike hard & often like this before, so any new stuff i put on prior dirt bikes more or less lasted indefinitely.

Well... so much for that grand idea. I will say the Trailtech kickstand works great if you don’t hit anything too hard. I bumped a few rocks yesterday. I think I’m gonna just invest in a triangle.

Time to break out the welder again.
Linkeage?! I thought the left dog-bone was just expensive hose routing guide.

Ouch, that's kind of what I was wondering about with that underhang in the rocks. Might cut through a log fine, but those rocks are a little less forgiving.
