Yes he does and I'll probably end up ordering one at some point, depending on if the one I currently have will show any kind of performance issues. At this point I'm at $1335 into this build and will probably spend another $300 at FRP for new flywheel and stator , and then I've got stuff like a kickstand that I need , a rear fender plastic, and speedo unit . My guess is this thing will end up ringing in close to $2k all in (not including the labor hours ).

Labor doesn't count on something you love or are going to keep. Only if you plan to sell it. Get it fixed up and ride it for a while and I bet you will not want to sell it.

Some updates on the bike
Got the paint done on the plastic tank, side plates, and front fender. Took a helluva while to get done but came out pretty good for what it is.
Got the carb cleaned up and took a scotchbrite wheel to it and looks sharp. Also put in new Boysen reeds . Pictures don't show the the muffler on the bike but that has been painted and put on. Also added new front brake lines for the master cylinder. Also had to purchase a used master cylinder lever off ebay from an 89 kdx because the broken screw that rusted into the threads on mine ended up breaking a tap bit :(
Waiting on a new flywheel and coil from FRP , and also in the process of cleaning up the airbox. Also waiting on my new seat to finally get back from upholstery. The put on the wrong color for the seat, just a shade too light even though it as a bitchin color.

Since I dont know how to upload more than 5 pics in one post I'll double post.
Waiting too see if the UFO mx fender that is for 88 kx bikes will be able to fit on this one. I know the Maier plastic fits great buts its also $96 for just the fender and I'm not really big on the look oem fender with lights. I did see one thread that had an MX fender and a (UFO? ) thin light that hid below the fender. It was on a newer bike but it looked sleek and might be something I would put on this bike later on.

Anyone know what the part that holds the throttle cable into the throttle cable connector is called ? Apparently I'm missing this piece for my Mikuni and cannot figure out how to replace it ? m

You might be able to try a standard part or just find the OEM part somewhere. It fit a lot of models.

The paint work turned out perfect! Looks great!
I can see from your close-up picture of the carb mounted on the bike that your intake boot is beyond saving - replacing it is mandatory, not optional given how cracked it is. Last thing you want is to do all this work and then seize the engine when it goes lean due to an air leak.

Thank you Pressingonward your build thread has definitely been a motivator for me.
I tried fitting my exhaust pipe on and noticed that the mounts dont seem to line up. Not sure what the story is here... The pipe seems to fit well but could I somehow have the wrong exhaust pipe for the bike ? I might have to fab a temp solution if that is the case .

LOL, I'm pretty sure you must be thinking of someone else. I've posted here and there, but I'm pretty sure I've never actually started my build thread. TheGarBrah, that's an '88 pipe with the three springs. '86 and '87 just have two.
It makes me wonder if an '88 cylinder had differences besides the paint color and extra spring hole.

Little update on the bike. I got my custom seat back finally after several mishaps with the upholstery guy. I went with a custom color that looks close to a factory color and got new seat foam put in. The original rear fender that came with the bike was an mx style but not sure which bike it was from. I ordered the maier and I immediately noticed that it doesn't quite have the lines and fit that I was hoping for. Does anyone know of a good write up on fitting one of these fender to an older bike ? I get that it won't quite fit to exact specs but for the price tag I want this fender to fit just right or I'll return it and get a less expensive option that I can chop up to fit my needs.

The Maier rear fender is for 1995+ models.
You and the last picture are 1986 / 1987 KX125/KX250/KX500 rear fender.
Get a DC Plastics 1986 - 1988 KDX200 rear fender if you are wanting a taillight.

I 've tried out the ufo kx rear fender for 80's models and It didn't really look to great. Was hoping maybe this fender would pan out but I'm not really digging it either .

I ended up going with an 86 KX fender from Maier since it matches the specs from the busted fender that I have . Once I get the fender In I'll update the photos. Bike is done except for the stator coil and flywheel (waiting on FRP to get those back).
