I'm sure the mods will get this moved to the correct subforum so you get more responses. But you have to provide a little more information than "Can't shift, help me". Was it working prior to this issue and what changed? What have you done so far to diagnose/troubleshoot. Did it work, you did some maintenance, and now it doesn't, or was it working and suddenly stopped working on the trail? How long have you had the bike? Do you have a manual and tools? Help us help you.

Sounds like something broke internally, first indication was inability to kick start, then you brute forced it into running. Pull the clutch cover off and the clutch and start inspecting for damage/debris. Sounds as if something is lodged in there.

Sounds like a tooth has broken off inside somewhere.

You have to find out what it is first. If a tooth came off a gear you will need the whole gear. It could be any number of things, the kickstart return spring could have snapped, a gear tooth broken, any one of several small fasteners inside could have come loose. Open it up, take lots of pictures, check against the service manual. We can't really help until you do the basic work first

This is correct. There’s lots of stuff in there that can break. If it’s just a circlip that broke, it’ll be a lot cheaper than a gear.

I would research "bent shift fork".
