Chain sag
No wonder I had the chain too tight when sitting on it. This is measured at 65mm when on the side stand per the manual. When the rear swingarm is off the ground, like in this pic, this is how much more slack is in the chain.

That looks a bit loose. When on a stand, I put it in gear and turn the wheel forward to tighten the lower run of the chain. Then, at the back edge of the top slider, I measure 3 fingers width, or roughly 2.5 inches.
