I'm unfamiliar with two strokes. I have owned 4 strokes since I was ,8, 24 years now! I had always read about how the KDX, and how it's a ln excellent bike. So I was able to snag one local.

My jets are scheduled to be in ,Friday. I have the carburetor soaking in carb cleaner  I bumped the needle clip up one, to number 3. I may try this first once its done soaking, before changing jets , see if it cuts down on how rich its running. , any thoughts???

Though sometimes hard to do, changing one jet at a time, then test riding is the way to go.

I believe I have it running very well now. I haven't really had the space to open it up until today, and it sure does open up!! Has a mild low rpm bog, only if I'm barely putting around in the front yard. I'm beginning to think, that's just how the bike is. Other than that, it runs great!

24 HP in stock configuration according to the Dirt Rider magazine test and their dyno report. Don't expect your arms to get pulled off. :-)

Now that it is running well, see if any jetting changes will make it better. Don't be afraid to keep trying.

I am glad you got it going well!

Very true! I may be just expecting a bit more than I should. It really does run very well.

I may play around with jetting some more. And then just leave it at that. I'm still debating the DG expansion chamber, I have the silencer, is the expansion really worth it, honest???

Play with the pilot jets and get the best one, then go to the needle clip and then the main jet.

$314 (plus shipping??) would be a tough ask.

Starting to look around:

If you want a pipe and ever see an FMF in good shape, get it. They quit making them a few years ago.

Thanks! That's what Ill keep doing! As for the pipe, its very tempting. I see(through your attachment) I can get it for $294 total. That's not to bad, I may just go ahead and order it. I am sure it will have to help somewhat... Thanks again!

I ordered the DG expansion chamber today. So,I'll wait until I have it installed and then jet accordingly! Pretty excited ,now I will have the complete DG exhaust set up.

Question.. what's the stock sprocket sizes ,and chain length on the 86 kdx200?

13 / 48 (not 47 like 1989 - 2006)

I am not certain on chain length. I think it is 110.

One thing I am certain of, it is better to cut it too long than too short!

A little confused now.. A good friend of the family, whom has been a Kawasaki mechanic for years at a dealership near by, has stated that when adding a full aftermarket exhaust like the DG you usually have to jet DOWN on the main., Instead of up...
