1986 KDX 200 rebuild, Samuel3231

I recently purchased a 1986 model. The entire motor has been gone through, top to bottom. I am new to these bikes. A couple of questions.. if I install the DG exhaust compression chamber, and slip on ,do I need to rejet? Also, I am assuming these bikes do not have an air/fuel mixture screw??

Please start a new thread when asking a question. Your question at the end of another thread was moved here in a new thread. Thank you.

Welcome to kdxrider.net. Congratulations on your purchase.

Are you certain the jetting is perfect now? Either way, maybe.

1986 and 1987 KDX200's did not come with an air screw.

Air screws are usually for two-strokes. Fuel screws are for four-strokes.

Thank you for the response. No, I am not sure if the jetting is correct. I have ordered new reeds, and new intake boot, and carb/airbox boot, as both were showing cracks. I am going to pull the carb when I go to install this, and inspect. I actually have a very clean/nice 1987 carb also, could I swap these out?

Wow. Both boots. Good job to do that. I am glad someone offers those of late. Cracked boots are always a problem.

As best I know, 1986 and 1987 carbs are either identical or nearly identical. 1988 changed from the Mikuni VM34SS to the Keihin PWK35.

Yes, I looked it up, 1986 and 1987 are the exact same carburetor (when new, maybe not with someone changing it in the last 30+ years) :-)

This Kawasaki 15001-1202 CARBURETOR-ASSY Not Available fits the following models and components:

Kawasaki Motorcycle 1986 KDX200 - KDX200-C1 Carburetor

Kawasaki Motorcycle 1987 KDX200 - KDX200-C2 Carburetor

Thanks for the reply!! Yes, I got them from , Hot Foot Moto. NOT cheap! But, glad they had them. I swapped the carbs today, the 1987 was much cleaner. I also installed my ,Vforce Reed's. I will await for my DG exhaust and boots to arrive, before putting all back together.

Are you able to post pictures of the boots? I can explain how to attach them, if need be.

Look on those diagrams, and if you click on the part number, you can see all the models that came with that part number. There were some changes between 1986 and 1987, so don't think they are identical.

I will get pictures,as soon as the arrive. When I ordered, the part number for the boots was for an 86-87 kdx200. So, hopefully they will work. I have the old ones off, and ready to install. I also have new V Force Reed's in.

My order had a flaw, and they only sent the slip on DG pipe. Is it really worth it to go forward with the expansion chamber as well?

A tuned expansion chamber, for any 2 stroke engine can be your biggest performance gain. It just depends on how much faster you want to go.

I added a DG pipe to my 1990 200. The performance gain at all RPM was substantial.
