It really is! I'm not sure if it's due to the year of the bike, I mean it's honestly the same age as me!

It's just DG.

Pro Circuit and FMF Racing are not that high for a nickel plated pipe and standard silencer for other models.

FMF used to make a pipe for the 1986 - 1988 KDX200. Their universal spark arrestor may fit, but I have never tried one.

I installed the V Force Reed's, and new boots today. It runs really well! Although, I believe I will change the piolet jet to the recommended 35, and bump the main down to 300-310,factory is 300 I'm now at 320. Also check to make sure my needle position is at three. Does the needle position count begin at the top, or bottom of the needle?

Do these bikes use the 8 bleed hole piolet jet? And will a hex 4/042 main jet work?

The stock Mikuni carb used on the '86-'87 has no air screw adjustment. So as far as I can tell, pilot jetting is only guessing.

Very true, it's a major guess. I'm most certain it's the Vm22 jet ,the 8 hole for piolet. I believe it is running to rich on the main so I'm going to drop it down to 300 and go from there. And then guess on the piolet jet after that

Nah. Don't do that.

Start at the pilot and work your way up. The pilot affects all circuits. Getting it wrong affects all throttle ranges.

Got it! I'll start there. I ordered the VM22 eight hole piolets. Only other option was a six hole, I'm pretty sure it has eight holes in the piolet. It runs amazing once you are past 1/4 to half throttle. But it's a little sluggish down low. The gentleman that rebuilt the engine, placed 50/1 ratio in it during break in, will that affect anything? I'm getting extra spooge out of the silencer as well.

My '86 also runs sluggish at lower rpm. The previous owner had it replated and new piston. I tried every jet and needle combination with both stock Mikuni and now the '88 Keihin carb. I sent both carbs out to be rebuilt. Ran both stock and FMF expansion chanber. Stock and FMF silencer. Did another top end rebuild and checked Kips timing. Nothing has solved the problem.

Target man, wow. Hate to hear that! Once my KIPS kicks in it's gone!! I believe I am running to rich based on the excess spooge. My cylinder was replated as well, also all new bottom end. Less than one hour on the rebuild. It could possibly just need tuned in and broken in a bit more. It has amazing compression, it will idle great! It's just that lower throttle response. I am going to change the plug as well, and I have drained the tank and I am going to use 93 octane and Kawasaki racing oil at 32/1.

I have searched the net and have read many similar complaints, but have not read of anyone who actually figured it out. I run 91 octane non ethanol and Amsoil Interceptor. 40/1.

I have an '88 and there is no problem with it. Crisp throttle throughout. I have been thinking about swapping the CDI and coils.

I will keep playing around with it ,and see what I figure out. The timing is set to Jeff Freddets specs. So I'm most certain that's not an issue. And the KIPS was all cleaned and functioning when rebuilt. I am currently running a 25 piolet jet, 86 calls for a 35 . I may bump up to a 30.
