Anybody had trouble with running ATF in the gearbox?
I just used ATF in my gearbox and the clutch has started dragging.
I try to kick the bike in gear with the clutch in gear and the bike leaps forward. It also stalls at idle sometime while in gear.
Cable is well adjusted.

ATF is pretty much all I have ever ran, never had issues with it.

You might try changing the fluid again, just to flush out any mix of ATF and prior oil. Long shot. I switched to ATF without problems some time ago. Pretty popular choice.

Sounds like your clutch basket is notched and could use a replacement.

Did your clutch work fine before the oil switch? If not, I would take the clutch apart & inspect it.
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Got the morning off work and pulled the clutch basket. Basket is very mildly notched, can only just feel it. Will file it later on and refit. Will measure clutch plates as well.

Oil smells very burnt. Starting to wonder if the clutch was over adjusted.

So cleaned up the basket, maybe 30 secs file on each to get it like new. Plates measure all a little over 3mm so in great shape.

Which oil did you use before??
What clutch lever to perch gap were you running?
As mentioned by SlickNick, lurching does usually sound like a notched basket.

while you had it apart did you measure your clutch spring free lengths? The KDX is known for having a dragging clutch, make sure everything is per spec. Lots of folks use ATF with no issues, though I believe it does need to be changed a little more often and likely is not the cause of your issue.

1100 hours running ATF in mine and zero problems whatsoever.... same clutch. Def sounds like you've got something else going on

I use ATF and I beat the hell out of my clutch. I’m sure to change it regularly, but it’s never given me any problems.
