FMF Pipe Fit.

Post by jafo »

I got this 84 KDX and have found an FMF pipe and muffler for sale. It looks to be the same exact shape and all as my 84 pipe down to the hangers on the pipe are in the same spot and the curl to the head looks the same. they advertise it as a 87 FMF KDX 200 pipe. Are they mistaken or could an 87 and 84 pipe cross over? Is there something I'm not seeing that could be critical? I'll try to post a pic in my gallery of the pipe in question.

Thanks, Jon.

Go to buykawasaki.com and see if the part numbers for stock pipes on the 84 and 87 are the same. I bet Jason could tell you if buykawaski doenst answer your question.

Good luck

I went there after i found the pipe and checked it out. The one in the pic to me does'nt look like an 87 pipe. The 84 and 87 pipe part numbers are different also. They look really close. I'm worried more about the pipe diameter where it goes into the head more than the fit of the pipe. They are so close an new hanger would'nt be a big deal. It's just the entry into the head.

I think I'll give it a shot.

If Jason doesn't chime in, PM'm. No one knows more about that vintage than he does.

...and if you don't believe that, just ask him!

...Yast yoking, Yason!

I passed on the pipe. I got to really looking close and it has a slight difference in the bend out of the head. I was affraid it would have been the wrong angle going into the head so I passed on it. I'll be getting a new bike anyways next year hopefuly if everything works out on my new house.

You might talk to farmerj. I understand he has two of most everything and is willing to part with the 'extres' for cheap!!

**No, I'm not serious. It's all a joke at Jeff's expense!!

Yep. Time for a new bike!! Another kdx?

(concerning him having an extra) LOL

FMF's first KDX pipe is the 1986 - 1988 pipe. As best I know, they never made one for an '85 or earlier KDX. DG did, so if you are wanting a pipe, check for DG, or maybe PSI or Krause. I know DG made one, though. I think Jeff Fredette might even sell them. http://www.frpoffroad.com

Sorry to chime in late. I must have missed this thread.

I just checked. Fredette has the DG exhaust pipe AND the DG silencer. If you ever decide to change either, you have a source! I know the older the KDX, the harder it is to find aftermarket parts for it.
